Wasn’t there an interview after the release of TOTK, where they said BOTW/TOTK was the blueprint for Zelda going forward? As much as I love these games, I really hope we get a more traditional game

 

I hope the new Zelda game is just a revamped Windwaker

 

I’m still hoping every day for a switch port, along with Twilight Princess.

But how fucking cool would it be if they did a straight up sequel to WW?

 

I'm totally cool with more open world hijinks

Yeah they mentioned that the freedom of exploration in BOTW/TOTK will remain for future games. I would like to see them mix that with the traditional game play if they find a way.

 

Elden Ring gave us a huge open world and large legacy dungeons so hopefully, Nintendo took notes.

 

I want the next one to be more than just an open world with dungeons though. It needs that charm that Zelda games always have. Like it’s a brand new adventure.

 

I’m not sure if this is a route they’d ever go, but I’d be sort of interested to see a game where you collect an old-school arsenal of Zelda items and it increases your open world traversal options over time. Like, the game itself starts relatively linear, but as you get certain items you get to interact with the world differently, as opposed to getting all your runes at the beginning and also being able to instantly climb anywhere you want. By the end the world would be completely open like modern Zelda, where there’s no “out of bounds” areas, but the initial experience would be more traditional.

 

I want the franchise to go in the complete opposite direction of what they've been doing. The world gets smaller and smaller as it goes on and eventually you're just confined to one room and the room just keeps changing.

Only if they use the same cast of characters. I actually would be cool if they just kept making more games in this Zelda timeline.

 

I doubt we’ll see anyone related to the four divine beasts or the sages if the next game isn’t a sequel to TOTK. They rarely reuse characters if they aren’t Link, Zelda, Ganon or Impa.

 

Well tell them to stop.

Hopefully the next game will take places like 1000-2000 years in the future and it will just be Link walking around Manhattan in his green tunic with his sword looking for dungeons and someone to fight
