It's probably pretty easy to fix on your own, but Nintendo also let's you send them in to get repaired for free (they provide a shipping label). I just had one done a couple of months ago.

Fancy a new Switch game, but not sure what to go for. Is there anything on sale that people would recommend?

Haha it was actually Hades (and the Hades 2 announcement) that has made me want something new. Saw the announcement and got a craving for some Hades, did a run and thought "god, I've put multiple hundreds of hours into this, I need to vary things up"!

Looked a bit at Golf Story but don't really think it's my kinda thing. Dead Cells too, but I don't really like Metroidvanias

Dead Cells has the exact same loop as Hades, it's not a Metroidvania. It comes highly recommended.

Also that Cult of the Lamb game is very good!

Oh, I thought Dead Cells was like a rogue with Metroidvania elements, which wouldn't gel with me. I'll have a look at some reviews!

The only Metroidvania like elements are that sometimes you will acquire new abilities that will let you go to different biomes, but it's inconsequential.

it's the best playing 2D-game in my opinion.

There are absolutely metroidvania elements to it so if it's not your thing be wary.

It's a great game, but it does really fall into that category.

The only Metroidvania elements are that you get new abilities sometimes but they don't effect gameplay at all. Also you don't get lost etc.

Annoyingly it's £10 cheaper on PS4 than on Switch. But I want the portability... Dammit.

I've pulled the trigger so fuck it, guess we'll find out if my love of roguelites trump's the Metroidvania aspect haha

I'm curious what turns people off about Metroidvanias? Is it just the backtracking?

i'm a simple man who loves rpgs too much: i like to keep the inventory i find instead of starting over new every time i die.

then what you're not liking is the roguelike aspect, not the Metroidvania ;)

Metroid Dread is one of the finest games ever made. If you don't like that one, then you know.
If you want a cheaper alternative that has more RPG-like progression, Ori and The Will of the Wisps is probably one of the best and most beautiful in this category.

Neither of these games have any sort of meaningful penalty for death.

you can probably pick up a used physical copy for cheap at a GameStop of your choosing. It didn't exactly light the charts on fire.

According to Wikipedia's list of best-selling Switch games, it's #38 at 2.90 million sold.

To put that into perspective, it's more than Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, and New Pokémon Snap, but less than Paper Mario, the Switch versions of Minecraft and Among Us, and Yoshi's Crafted World.

It is however the best-selling Metroid game. That's something.
