Well yeah because one game is trash and the other game is transcendent but what can ya do. Low quality stuff outselling high quality stuff is a problem in pretty much every medium.

 

Does it drive you to despair?

 

A sequel to that is cheap and probably makes a lot of money so why wouldn’t they. Also they could do fun stuff with it.

Is it Nintendo that said that? It says sources during localization, but I'm not sure if that specifically means Nintendo employees, does it?

 

as someone who worked in localisation, we hate all the games while we work on them.

I've worked on several games that are now considered modern classic that were barely tolerable in the form they reached us, including Skate 2, Dead Space, and Mass Effect 2, but especially Dragon Age.

The only game I genuinely found enjoyable working on was The Beatles: Rock Band.

 

I need a new Donkey Kong Country game. Tropical Freeze is so good, but I've exhausted myself of all the levels.

Can I start expecting BOTW2 news or will I just be setting myself up for more sadness and disappointment

 

They demo‘d BOTW at e3 then released it in April the following year.

Depends. The summer before BOTW came out, their E3 stuff was all about BOTW. If the game is really coming in the Spring, we could see it there. I think it’s probably more likely we get something small about it next week, if anything, and then we get a Direct dedicated just to BOTW2 in the fall, personally.

 

Id be surprised if we dont know the actual title of the game after the direct

 

Man, I hope they announce like a big surprise coming in September/October like they did Metroid Dread last year.

 

Yeah announce Metroid Dread 2 plz, even if it’s years away.

 

I’d „settle“ for a look at Prime 4.

 

Maybe they’ll show the Prime 1 remake

Genuinely would love to hear about more of what you did behind the scenes. I've never really followed what your job was tbh, but it sounds interesting.

 

- check translations for consistencies / proofreading
- making sure the translated text actually fits on the screen (as english is a pretty short language)
- beat my boss at Street Fighter
- making sure that we are in adherence of platform holder certification guidelines
- translate text that was "forgotten" by the official translators
- I was supposed to be brought in to direct the german VO for Mass Effect 2 but that never materialised unfortsh (sounds weird typing this. I have no idea why that was even in consideration. I am just some guy)
- make sure there are no swastikas in german versions

that's largely it. I've since left the industry but EA Europe is a shockingly great employer, and a great stepping stone to get your foot in the industry. One of my best buds works as the tech lead on Gears now and another is a product lead on Fortnite.

After that I worked as an editor for the german speaking PlayStation Blog and after that I worked as a designer for SCEE (now SIE)

I tried the Strikers demo and…it’s just not for me. I guess I really don’t like competitive games.
I’m really digging Arceus though. Yeah, it’s a bit empty, but it’s fun and a kinda open world Pokemon game is cool. It makes me more excited for the new one(s).
