I don’t know if they are “casual”, they might often not be in terms of hours, but they definitely want different things from games than “hardcore” gamers

I barely play my Switch and even I've accrued probably 20-30 games over the last 5 years

Remember the two months during the height of the pandemic when people cared about that game?

Hmmm idk if I believe that. Almost every franchise released on Switch is breaking their own sales records. Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Luigi’s Mansion, etc.

They weren’t breaking the same amount of records on Wii, which according to that tweet had a higher attach rate

Animal Crossing will always be the "pandemic" game for me.

When the pandemic started my roommates from college went home and I stayed, so I was in an apartment by myself for a month. Days would go by where I wouldn't say a single word because there was no one to talk to. I would only talk to my friends online and we would share info about the game as we progressed.

It's a good game that I can still play, but I'll always associate it with that first month of the pandemic.

Definitely this. I remember deciding to up and buy a Switch + AC for my wife mostly as she was laid off. I remember working from home and on meetings all day while just refreshing the Best Buy website and it just popped up in stock and I was all over it. My wife played that game beside me as I "worked from home" for a good 2 months straight. It was great

Yeah, it’s great. Those memories attached to it will last longer than any amount of gameplay.

AC was like the only game my wife played for a time at the beginning of the pandemic, and she doesn't play videogames. She went hard on it for about a month then it basically became me managing her island because I'm OCD. I slowly stopped paying attention to it and before I knew it, a year had gone by without either of us playing it. Rather than face the wrath of the villagers and wade through the jungle of weeds, I sold the game lol
