But Nintendo IS gimmicks and honestly, I'm sick of them even being called gimmicks at this point. Nintendo makes things interesting and fun.

I agree with portions of what everyone is saying, but ultimately I land on the side of thinking they should continue with the Switch technology.

And actually, what else would they do, anyway? Nintendo is always in service of whatever allows them to make new and different games, and the Switch includes practically every technology they've ever incorporated.

I just think there's no logical place for them to go that would reasonably open up new gaming ideas that wouldn't involve treading their current path.

I think at the end of the day we have to consider that there's more than 100 million Switches out there and those people will be expecting at least a few more years of software support. Making a beefed up Switch that is fully backwards and forwards compatible is imho the perfect play and would placate almost everyone.

If I am not mistakes, the Switch is on track to sell another 20 million this year, I don't think it'd be fair to those people to just go "yeah enjoy our legacy catalogue :)"

It really does track that when they have something this good, the next iteration should just like Supersize it

Hopefully they name and market it better than the Wii U. I feel like that disaster has them scared about a Switch sequel.

Nothing lasts forever. But this this time I doubt they’ll switch it up.

Ironically they obviously brought WiiU ideas back for Switch

Nintendo just underestimates how much people want new systems to be more of the same but more powerful, or overestimates how much doing that would expose that they’re underpowered compared to the competition. Now that their main console is a handheld where there’s less pressure to be bleeding edge, I feel like they might actually give the people what they want.

Also I hope they learned the right lessons from the GameCube and Wii U. The former failed because the format missed the dvd craze and the box looked weird, the latter because it wasn’t clear it was a new system or that people were burned out on what made the Wii such a success in the first place. Switch is still cool 5 years in and there doesn’t seem to be a big tech trend they need to keep up with so I think they are in a much better place to go the sequel route, probably the best since SNES.

They should just make a long stick that you have to crack open into two smaller sticks and then hold one stick in each hand then it will project a holographic display in front of you that you control with gyration and eye movements

Love to hold one then two sticks and then gyrate

Do they really? Do people just not buy a lot of games?

EDIT: Or maybe I'm misunderstanding. Is this the average number of games owned? Or the average number of games purchased along with a console?

To your first question: it depends on the generation, but yes it has happened regularly.

To your second question: they don’t. The average, say, 360 or PS4 owner had, like, two sports games, two CoDs, GTA5 and like Uncharted or Halo.

This is so wild to me, frankly. I mean, when I was a kid I only owned whatever my parents would allow me to get, but the minute I started earning an income of my own, I bought any game I wanted that I could afford.

I mean, I guess that's the difference between a casual gamer and a... gamer, but it's still weird for me to think about, honestly.
