I'm mixed about Reggie's take. I want to believe his heart is in the right place, cause he comes off as legitimately thinking about the possibilities the technology opens up for gamers and not necessarily the game makers.

That said, while I believe blockchain tech is an interesting thing, and putting aside the horrible environmental effects, it's completely unnecessary for what he's proposing.

Gamers have been able to sell in-game creations in games for a long time now, and blockchain wasn't necessary to do it. It feels like solving a problem that doesn't exist, unless I'm missing something vital.

You're right on the money, honestly. Ownership of digital assets is perfectly fine to do within the game itself - adding blockchain to the mix does absolutely nothing to enhance the experience other than jump on a bandwagon. If the game shuts down, you're left with worthless accessories either way - the only difference is that your now useless video game assets are permanently stored within a publicly accessible sphere for everyone to see.

Blockchain is, for sure, an interesting technology, but current implementation is just a crock of shite

What is the consensus on Rune Factory 5? I’ve never played one.

It's fine. The biggest problem is the performance. Thankfully, and I don't know why, but my performance hasn't been that bad but you can watch videos of people playing where every fight they get into it lags and there's constant framerate drops. If you can ignore those problems like I can then it's a fun little cute farm/RPG/dating sim.

However, Rune Factory 4 Special does everything better and that's also on Switch. It's just not 3D.

As much as I want it, I just can't justify spending $40 on a game that should either be a pack-in game or a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion game

Yeah, I dunno if I'd go as far as that, but I do feel like $40 is asking too much.

Like, it feels weird to me to say that I don't value a game like Nintendo Switch Sports on the same level as I would a new Mario or Zelda game, as if I'm not valuing the work and energy that people put into making it, but it's the truth.

A multiplayer party game should not cost as much as a 40+ adventure or action game. Some genres in my mind are just going to be worth less by default because of the perceived difference in experience that I'll have. It's the same with puzzle games or sports games.

And yes, I know Mario and Zelda games are $60. That's another conversation.

I mean, I think to expect it to cost no money at all is a little much.

    I didn't say it shouldn't cost money.

Being a pack in game costs money.

Being part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion service costs money.

Super Mario World, arguably one of the best games of all time, was a pack in game for the SNES.

I mean... okay. So here's where there's a disconnect in how we're interpreting this.

If it's part of the online service, then you're paying for the online service, and the game wouldn't cost any additional money, right?

Or if it's bundled with the system, okay, then maybe the package costs a little more to have the game with, it, but wouldn't it still have to be sold separately for the people who already bought the system?

I guess I'm not sure what you think should be done with this game for the people who already own a Switch.

Wii Sports was a pack in game and it's the exact same game.

I don't see why you're creating this disconnect

No, the game WOULD cost more money if you HAD to have the Switch Online Expansion, not just regular Switch online.

I'm confused by this statement. Maybe I don't understand what you mean when you say it should be a Nintendo Online Expansion game.

I'm interpreting that to mean that it's a game you would get when you subscribe to the Online Expansion service, just like the N64 and Genesis emulators.

Is that not what you mean?

It is what I mean, because you also get the Animal Crossing expansion, the Splatoon Expansion and the Mario Kart 8 DLC courses and I view this game on the same level of content and worth as those games.

It's also an incentive for Nintendo to promote their online service.

The game should be a free download. I don’t care how anyone wants to take that lol

I just think if Nintendo is already selling boatloads of Switchs and wants to promote their new online service having a game like this is a no brainer for their new tier of Switch Online.

$40 digital is not an impulse buy price and $50 physical is almost the same as a brand new Zelda game. It may be a fun game, but there's very little someone could do to convince me they are worth the same price range.

I agree that $40 is a stupid price, so we agree there at least.

And I do see what you're saying, but I would expect there to be at least some option for people who don't want to get the online service but do want to own the game, and for that, you'd still need an individual price point.

I dunno, I'm not in disagreement about what you're saying, but I don't think that should be the only way to obtain the game.

Tbh the existing Mario Kart switch bundle is a much better value than including switch sports heh
