It's one of those things where I have mixed feelings, partially spawned by just the simple fact that I want the game.

But I do kind of understand that a game based around warring countries would be triggering for people at this time and it's probably better for them to release it at a better time, hopefully when things have calmed down.

At the same time, since it's entirely a work of fiction, I do wonder if this actually does do anything. Like if it was released, if it would really be psychologically impactful or if the sales would be hurt by the current climate. Just curious.

When I first saw the trailer, I thought the game seemed fun but over time I’ve kind of soured on the whole idea of it. Not just with what’s going on but the machismo and style that kind of goes with that kind of game. It would be more chill if it was just Digimon fighting eachother because they’re not real lol

Just learnt that the original game on GBA was pushed back because of 9/11. Just can't catch a break.

    What, Advance Wars?

I admit I'm a little confused by this take, but that's coming from someone who has played the games and has fond memories. I'm not sure what's "machismo" about it, unless you're just saying all RTS games are that way?

As for the Digimon statement, I mean, I get what you're saying in that it's easier to accept fake monsters fighting each other vs. fake humans, but it's a bloodless game not meant in any way to simulate real combat and it's all fictional. On the flipside, two warring nations of monsters are still two warring nations, so nothing much changes except instead of little army guys, you have little monster dudes.

I dunno, I guess I don't make the same connections.

I just don't know where the line is. The 21st century had featured pretty much constant war, are we saying that any military-based media is inappropriate in that context? Coz that clearly hasn't been the case up til now.

The nitpicker in me feels the need to point out that they're not all big and buff. The main character is pretty scrawny, actually.

But I dunno, what I typically identify as machismo doesn't play into the game as far as I remember. I feel like unless you're suggesting that all games of this type (Command and Conquer as an example) are the same, then you're just unfairly judging the game.

joking statement: This is my Elden Ring

I don’t think so, some people just don’t want to play a game like that right now because they don’t want to be reminded of it and some people are totally fine with it. It’s not being cancelled or anything, they’re probably just worried about the way it looks at the moment.

How is Triangle Strategy? A good Fire Emblem replacement for the time being?

I don't think so much that it's a game about war, it's that it's a game about war where a cartoony version of America is fighting against a cartoony version of Russia.

I love AW and was looking forward to it, but i get it.

Oh damn. I missed some Digimon talk? Digimon World is really great, as it feels like the OG anime in a lot of ways. That said, the game is seriously hard as fuck.

Digimon World 2 was my fucking shit. I had a MarineAngemon that just fucked up everyone.

I remember playing 3, but absolutely nothing about it.

The Hacker games have been excellent. I only wish it would cut down on some of the real world stuff and get me battling more.

I mean, I think technically only one character in the game is meant to be Russian, and if we really want to get down to it, I think everyone in the game is probably just meant to be Japanese.

EDIT: I'm not debating the point, just nitpicking the minutiae.

Loved Digimon World. I never bought the game back then but I think I’d go rent it like every week. I wouldn’t know if it holds up now, I’m guessing not. But I’d love to play it again just for nostalgia. I remember being disappointed a bit in World 2 because it was a whole different style but it was fun in its own way. I never played any after that though

I thought it pretty clear that Orange Star Nation is supposed to be the US, Blue Moon is supposed to be Russia, Green Earth is supposed to be either West Germany or Weimar Republic Germany, Yellow Comet is supposed to be Japan, and Black Hole is supposed to be a weird futuristic version of Nazi Germany.

Okay, I'm not prepared to accept that you rattled that off the top of your head without looking that up or getting it from another website, just because I did fact-checking after my post and I found those descriptions almost verbatim.

If you did know that offhand, then kudos.

Anyway, it's been a long time since I've played the games, but my interpretation is that the designs of the armies and their uniforms and vehicles is based off those armies, but I'm not sure that the characters themselves are and I'm not sure that the armies are all based singularly off each one. I read one army is actually a hodgepodge of different countries.
