The real answer is no. It's completely standalone and different from the other games.

In some ways I think you might actually be less confused than someone who’s played Pokémon for the past 20 years. I’m constantly bumping into mechanics that don’t work in nearly the way I expect them to, just because I’m so used to the more conventional Pokémon formula.

Man Nintendo saying every year since 2020 that the Switch is still only halfway through it's life cycle is just absurd. The hardware is, just, so dated at this point. To think it can last even another two years, let alone longer than that, is pretty ridiculous. Something like Pokemon Legends: Arceus (which was a great game mechanically but was pretty embarrassing from a technical perspective) proves that they need a Switch 2 in the next year or two. Obviously make it fully backwards compatible, but a successor needs to happen.

I also understand the console is still selling well, so everyone can not bother bringing that up. As someone who wants Nintendo's developers to have hardware capable of matching their ambitions, I'm not talking about this from a money perspective here.

I think PLA's technical issues have more to do with Gamefreak than the hardware limitations of the Switch, but I agree it's ridiculous that we're still "halfway through" its lifecycle

I guess when it comes to Nintendo I’ve never cared about their consoles having the best specs. I’ve never not had fun on a Nintendo console. I’m more than happy to boot up my DMG or GameCube or even the Wii to this day and play some games.

I honestly don't think it matters. Unless the console itself and the software is bad, Nintendo fans are going to buy it regardless. The Switch is a smash hit and still sells out some versions like the OLED. It's also a great machine for indies.

Would I like a new, more powerful console? Sure, that would be great! But does it matter? No.

People who want Nintendo to be an all in one console that can play Nintendo games, indies and huge third party AAA like Call Of Duty, Cyberpunk and Far Cry 6 need to understand Nintendo hasn't been a company that focuses on that kind of thing for decades now. It's just not what their focus is and it works for them.

It makes a lot of sense too if you think about it from a financial standpoint. What does Nintendo have to gain from pouring tons of money into R&D and then production of a top of the line console to only have someone like Microsoft, who has endless money, to release a more powerful console with a fully featured and well received online infrastructure?

Nintendo probably just doesn't want to fight such an uphill battle which they would most likely lose. Now, I do think they could do the minimum of releasing a Switch 2 (or Switch Pro) that has 4K capabilities and a more powerful processor, etc, but it's ultimately not going to affect their first party titles too much in the grand scheme of things.

Like I said, I understand all of the financial reasons they're not in a rush to launch Switch 2. I'm saying from the perspective of a fan, I want a more powerful machine for more ambitious games.

It doesn't have to be a $500 competitor to the PS5 and Series X. I don't even necessarily need 4K. I just want something more powerful than the Switch currently is.

Nintendo's lying to their shareholders to imply constant momentum, like every company does. Switch 4K will be out by the end of next year

and then there is me not wanting a powerful console but just to play all the older games with backwards compatibility

I definitely think the Switch Pro was fully intended to be out at least by this year but chip shortages and covid ruined their plans and they settled for the OLED.
