I haven't played Ni No Kuni 2 yet, but I hear it's good. They dropped the familiars system, which I'm bummed about. But I've heard the combat is better in the second one.

I played a good amount the second one and found it incredibly boring and bland. It apparently opens up like 10 hours into the game or something with city building or something and I just couldn't ride that wave that long.

I love the world of Ni No Kuni but Inwas either terrible at the combat or needed to grind more than I wanted.

    gorgeous art though, obviously

I bought one of them (wrath of the witch? Something like that) when it was on sale. Still haven’t played it

    For Christmas, got my kids:

    Animal Crossing
    Luigi's Mansion 3
    Mario Party Superstars
    Hot Wheels Unleashed

Not sure how they'll handle Animal Crossing. Personally, I don't know much about it, but it sounds like it may be a bit too complicated/uneventful for a 7-year-old, and especially, a 4-year-old?

The beauty of Animal Crossing is that they can play it at their own pace, and the game does a pretty good job of guiding you

  11. Got 70 bucks in eshop gift cards. Don't know what to buy and I have so many games I have to play as it is.

This is honestly a great list for kids.

Animal Crossing they can just cook food, talk to cats, dogs, horses and dress up in tons of different cute and cool outfits. I think they should find it enjoyable enough.

The other games are pretty rad and super easy to pick up and play. Solid, solid list.

We are doing something similar for my 6 year old. He's getting a Switch for Christmas. I let him play mine occasionally and he enjoys playing Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 and Lego games but gets frustrated quickly and gets it taken away. He's getting Minecraft, Paw Patrol The Movie game, and several others more geared towards that age range. Hoping those will boost his confidence and less frustration to hopefully one day getting to play the bigger and more difficult ones again

I always think it’s funny when people say Minecraft is a good game for kids lol. I get that it’s very popular with young kids, but if you put me in front of it I would have NO idea what I was doing. It’s pretty complex.

Nice! The Switch was their big gift last year. Surprisingly, my son has had little difficulty playing most games. He's been playing Super Mario Bros Deluxe since last Xmas, and he got 3DWorld/Bowser's Fury for his birthday and I think(?) he's already beaten it. Our Switch last year came with Mario Kart too, so he plays that a lot. Lately he's been playing Mario/Sonic Olympic games (which sucks for adults, but kids seem to love it). My daughter is only 4, she struggled a ton trying to play games last year, but over the past few months, she's gotten the hang of most of the Mario games. She's actually already played Mario Party Superstars at a friends house and loved it.

The games they've struggled to play were like, NBA 2k and Wheel of Fortune (for obvious reasons). He also had difficulty with Crash Bandicoot, but I think that's more just because the timing of jumps/speed is different than Mario. I struggled with the difference too.

He's also very into Cars 3: Driven to Win, which if your 6-year-old is into the Cars movies, he may really dig that game.

I'm toying getting New Pokemon Snap for my 4 year old for Christmas. Would that be accessible for her do you think? It's on rails right, so I'm assuming at the basic level it's just point your camera and click?

We got this for our 6 year old assuming the exact same thing so I'm curious as well

It should be fine. The game can be fast sometimes though. Like, there will be some pretty difficult shots to get at points in some levels. But for the most part it’s easy enough to where I think a 4 year old could handle it. I’m 25 though, so I don’t totally understand what a 4 year old if capable of so maybe take my word with a grain of salt. Haha

That's helpful, thanks. I mean, I'm not expecting her to be "good", just so long as she can play it competently enough to have fun with it, she'll be satisfied and so will I.

She should be good to have fun with it. The cuteness of the game alone makes it a winner for younger kids I think. I mean, I’m an adult and I was basically hooked the moment I got a cute shot of Pichu. Haha

Played Minecraft for the first time recently and I had that exact experience. I messed around a bit and gathered resources, built a little house, but otherwise I'm not sure what the actual purpose of the game is. I suspect I'm not the target audience.

The purpose is whatever you want it to be. It's basically a virtual LEGO set.

I need a clear goal or objective or a story in a game. And I never cared for the visual style in Minecraft either.

My son tries to get me to play Minecraft all the time and I can never figure it out. I’ve never been more confused about anything in my life
