LMAO i was about to ask the same thing!!

Would have no problem doing that if they had a bundle of all the old games. There’s no way they would sell an old port of one game for that much more than two decades later, no way.

My point is, why would they offer still perfectly playable Pokemon games for essentially free when they can get way more money from the remasters.

There are already remasters, they’re called let’s go and they came out a few years ago lol if they don’t want to ever do it then fine, it’s shitty but not totally surprising. They had them available all the way up until the switch came out so the logic here is that they would become playable for the switch at some point as well.

They remastered those games twice already actually, Fire Red and Leaf Green

Oh yeah, you’re right haha you could also count yellow as a remaster lmao idk how many times you could remaster but I’m sure there will be another Kanto game in 2030

I could see Red/Blue on the first release of games. It will be similar to SNES on there I would assume. An A+ initial rollout and then a bunch of bullshit after. All Nintendo seems to care about is the initial big announcement and they definitely use the heavy hitters for that.

I still feel like this is a pretty unfair assessment seeing as how there are only a couple of Nintendo-owned NES and SNES games still not on the service. Granted, they are notable titles, but it's silly to blame Nintendo if Capcom and Konami want to milk their own franchises instead of letting Nintendo do it.

They're being cheap, so I will blame Nintendo. They refuse to dive back into 90 percent of their older generation games and then punish people for uploading older generation roms illegally.

There are so many incredible things they can go with each generation of system and all we get so far is some classic bangers (which is cool) then bottom of the barrel shit. I'd imagine there's a price to pay to get certain games on this service, a price Nintendo can damn well afford but they don't.

Fuckers. I'll pirate all the Nintendo console shit I want on my Steam DECK

Besides Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, and Zoda's Revenge, all of which I concede should absolutely have been on the Online service by now, there are no NES or SNES games that Nintendo can put on the service that wouldn't either require manpower to translate or require a third party's involvement. What is Nintendo supposed to do about that?

There is plenty they can do about it, but it's about profit and not about making your dedicated fan base happy.

I'm really clueless to this stuff for the most part but I can play more or less every damn Xbox game on a Series X and plenty of old Playstation games on a PS5. What's the difference between Nintendo and them? Just not wanting to invest at all in their older games being made playable.

Sony and Microsoft are direct competition, so I guess that's the answer. Nintendo has no competition so sucks for everyone.

I think there's a huge difference, but I'm not completely clear on the specifics, so if I'm wrong about anything, please let me know. But I believe the reason Sony and Microsoft can offer backwards compatibility is because all their systems use the same medium for games and they designed their console to be backwards compatible. For a long time, Sony was strongly against backwards compatibility themselves.

Nintendo on the other hand, has had proprietary media for their games for all of their existence, and most of those systems are cartridges, which means that it's impossible to offer the same kind of compatibility unless they directly offer the games to consumers. This would involve third parties, unlike with hardware-based compatibility.

Capcom can't stop Sony from making their system backwards compatible with PS4 games, but they sure as hell can stop Nintendo from offering their SNES releases online for subscribers.

At least that's my perception of things.

I also want to be clear, I'm not trying to make excuses for Nintendo, but I also believe in being realistic about the situation and also about being upset for the right reasons. I'm not going to be angry at Nintendo for something they can't control; I'll reserve that for the things they can.

Does it suck that Nintendo is not offering their N64, GBA, Gamecube, etc. classics for purchase? Of course it does. It's their games and they should be willing to offer them to consumers because that apart from anything else, it makes financial sense. But I'm not going to be mad at them for not offering other people's games. That's ridiculous.

What manpower would they need to simply port a game meant for NES/SNES? They aren't exactly cutting edge controls?

I've read many times about the emulation being difficult to replicate but that all makes sense.

I'm being just an ignorant fan boy in that I know they could do it if they wanted in theory, but it may be an extremely tedious process as well.

Just like sell a mega nintendo classic with a bunch of old console games (if not all) available for purchase! If they did that though the prices will be ridiculous.

Ah whatever nintendo just make a switch pro.

I said translate, not port. Some people think Nintendo should be taking this opportunity to bring games over from Japan.

Imagine Kotaku not even doing the bare minimum and checking their facts before releasing a story. Kotaku? Unprofessional? Never.
