I still have my Pocket Pikachu somewhere around my apartment. I know it still worked when I found it maybe 5ish years ago.

The burn-in issue with OLED is so extremely overblown.

They don't really have burn in as much as.... burn out? They definitely become dimmer over time, even if you don't have burn in.

I didn't know OLED screens have problems. If my Vita screen is dimmer I can't tell the difference and I've used it a ton. It does have a single row of pixels out at the very bottom of the screen but it's not even a problem to me

They definitely all dim over time, that's in their nature. Some pixels might dim faster than others depending on usage, which is what people then call burn in but isn't really burn in (plasma has real burn in). That being said, not everyone will arrive at a point at which they notice.

If it makes you feel any better, I was in high school when I got my NES and could drive when the game boy came out.

  15. My first system was N64 and my parents made me by it myself at 8 years old lol. They did buy me goldeneye which my dad proceeded to play more than me! They weren't pro video game really. They did get me the Gameboy color and pokemon yellow for Xmas one year which was a surprise.

My first was GBC and then N64. My first games for the GBC were Pokemon Red and Blue and Super Mario Land 2. I think Super Mario Land 2 is the first game I ever played (before I owned it), aside from arcade games (I know I played Outrun and some light gun game with dinosaurs). I’m 31.

I remember playing super Mario world and Mario paint on the SNES when I was really, really young even though the SNES was released before I was born. The first console I played alot was N64. Pokémon Stadium, Star Fox 64, Super Smash Bros, All Star Baseball and Madden on N64 were my first games not counting the few I played a little bit on SNES. Then in elementary school I played Pokémon Blue, Yellow and Silver on Gameboy in like 2nd-4th grade.

First system was the NES but only because I had two older brothers. First system of my own was Game Boy dmg though. I remember successfully pointing out how much better the GBC was to my mom and she bought it on release day for me

+1 on burn-in being way overblown on OLED.

I've had an LCD screen get burn-in on my LG phone within 1.5 years. My OLED Galaxy S8 lasted 3 years with zero burn-in before I bought my S21. I have never heard of them getting dimmer, and if that's true, it's never been noticeable on any of my OLED phones

Also my first videogame device was my Gameboy Pocket and I remember being addicted to some random Tasmanian Devil game and Pokemon Blue heh. N64 was my first console

Getting dimmer is inherent in the technology. 3 years usually isn’t enough to notice though, even in TVs (unless you get “burn in” from a game hud or something). I for example like to hang on to TVs for a decade if possible though.

the fact that TVs have become upgradable equipment is kinda fucked.

Right and I refuse to, I only want to upgrade when video games start to *really* make a compelling case, and I want TVs that last as possible

TVs have upgradeable equipment? How so?

Or you just mean they need to be replaced more often?
