So weird to hear complaints about Sunshine, the movement feels amazing and it’s such a unique experience. I’m 29 stars in and don’t think I could love it any more than I do!

I guess anything feels like an improvement after 64 but I also have had zero issues with the camera

Sunshine at the time really impressed me, it having that whole tropical island vibe and seeing the other levels off in the distance was rad. That being said, I think The Wind Waker and Metroid Prime were even better aesthetically and much better games overall.

I like 64 and Sunshine okay, but so many levels are just baffling in design. Such as the watermelon contest or the casino stages; and 64's entire Rainbow Ride course (where the camera and the draw distance make it extra annoying) and so many of the water levels...for a game with such rapid controls so many of the levels just don't take advantage of them. Though things like the Bowser courses are a lot more fun, as is the desert stage.

The world of Sunshine is one of its biggest problems. It looks like something unfinished.

I still think that M64 is a lot better than Sunshine and would either be my 3rd or 4th favorite 3D Mario depending on what I'd feel about Galaxy 2 since I haven't played it yet

I had never played Sunshine or Galaxy so I started a file on both. I immediately enjoyed Galaxy more, I'm finding Sunshine frustrating at times. But I'm still going in order and focusing on Sunshine first.

Huh? Delfino is the best hub world of any Mario game. There are a lot of fair criticisms about the game (difficulty curve mainly) but the beach environment and the exploration with the sewer system and secret stars is unparalleled imo

It also establishes a great sense of place, you can see all the different worlds from different points on the hub. It doesn’t feel unfinished to me at all, I think it’s meticulously thought out

I just think it's too small, looks unpolished and has this sense of blandness to it. Everything looks the same. I'm only about 20 Shines into the game though so maybe it changes or opens up?

It’s a small touch, but as you get more shines the island gradually gets sunnier. When you first start the game and everything is in the shade I would agree it looks bland, but not by the end.

ok guys, had a question, figured someone in here would know the answer - we've had a Switch for a while, I have a profile on there, have downloaded some DLC (like Smash fighters and stuff) on it - I also have a Switch Lite, with the same profile on it, but I can't access any of my DLC - is there a way to, say, get the Smash DLC onto my Switch Lite too? or is it only once per purchase? I've tried to find an option for it in the Nintendo Store, but came up empty :/

    Galaxy > 64 > Sunshine

Something that bugs me about Sunshine is that water-paint heatwave looking effect they used throughout the game. Everything just looks blurry to me.

Like @VanMastaIteHab already said, the whole story is trying to restore sunshine to Delfino, totally fine to find it off-putting but it’s definitely intentional that things get brighter the more you play!
Feel like I’m being staunchly defensive of the game and that’s definitely not my intention, everyone is entitled to their opinion of course. I just love it

I don't have the old game to confirm but I feel like I've read someone mention that heatwave effect seems more exaggerated and apparent in this port, but it could be that person's memory getting confused

I think it has overly frustrating difficulty spikes. That’s what most of my complaints come down to. Still love it.

This is true. It’s also like this on Dolphin. Emulation style upressing is probably to blame. I got used to it though.

It’s also all high level complaining admittedly. Every 3D Mario game is better than every other non-Mario 3D platformer ever made. Yes, better than Banjo, ffs.
