If Xenoblade 2 makes it out this year, Zelda probably won't be my GOTY.
Oh and I almost forgot about Red Dead 2... so much hype.

Is anyone going to do the naked vegan run on first play through?

I mean Zelda and Mario are likely to once again show that Nintendo is an impossibly good game developer

Coming out year 1 it's pretty much a guarantee that Splatoon 2 will be my most played game on the Switch. Especially if they keep updates and Splatfests going longer than they did with the original.

i dont really follow game reviews to closely but i remember hearing more or less the same extremely positive reaction for skyward sword, which i enjoyed but is my least favorite zelda game that ive played. i dont really want to set up myself up for disappointment (however small it may be) but im still really hyped

Ah but the difference is a lot of these are from Zelda sceptics and not blind fans

Ah, finally, my card has been charged for my preorder bundle. Never have I been so happy to open my checking account to see $500 gone.

I think as a reviewer you have to be conscious to review Zelda games just as a video game and follow the guidelines setup up for reviews by the publication they work for. Where as when we judge Zelda games it's on a curve, comparing it to all the other Zelda games. I've heard reviewers on podcasts who gave SS a 9 or 10, but then say it's not one of their favorite Zelda games. It was just a really good video game.

Skyward Sword is also among my least favorite Zelda games but, at least for me, there's been enough shown to make me think that I'll like this one much more. My personal biggest issues were all addressed - endless tutorials and handholding (game just throws you in the world, nothing like SS), game felt padded out (BotW seems to give you more options to do as much non-critical content as you like) and the hit or miss motion controls (completely gone). It sounds like this is going to be way more to my liking than SS ended up being.

I never played Skyward. I watched my roommate at the time play it, and he was always frustrated by the motion controls. I hope they eventually re-release it on the Switch.

Skyward Sword has good motion controls, it's just that the level/mission design of the areas you had to go through to reach the dungeons wasn't good. The dungeons were good, but dungeons aren't necessarily why I play Zelda. The hub was really charming. It was a georgeous game in general. All in all it was pretty good, but not more, I think.

I loved SS including the motion controls. The reasons I enjoyed SS so much is the opposite of what BOTW is doing. I really enjoyed the tightly designed linear areas. I liked having to frequently use items and solve environmental puzzles to progress even outside the dungeons

I just have to say none of my friends are anywhere near excited or even understanding of what the Switch is/means. it's been so much fun getting hyped with everyone.

Ha I hadn't yet read your comment before I said the exact opposite thing about the levels.

My problem with SS was the amount of bloat. With that sorta tightly designed linear structure it should've been a 15-20 hour game

Skyward Sword is easily my least favourite 3D Zelda but I still think it's pretty fantastic.

It's either that or TP for me, both have these tedious collection quests when entering a new area, it's so weird

Yeah the wolf sections hold TP back for me but apart from that I'm super into the dungeons/vibes in that game. I just love me some Zelda games.

I loved TP. Wind Waker will always be my favorite, maybe until BOTW

Wind Waker followed by Majora's Mask for me. WW is my second favorite game of all time.

I think SS is just okay overall. Once I beat it I never had any interest in touching it again, which was a first for a Zelda for me outside of spinoffs. TP has some similar bloat problems but the dungeons are fantastic, perhaps best in the series. I kept meaning to pick it up again on Wii U but never did.

Wolf Link wasn't great, but I'm stoked to to have him in BOTW. That looks like the best amiibo functionality in the game.

There's no way I'll ever use Wolf Link in this BOTW, ha.
