It's because Nintendo is pretty much pro at being anti-consumer.

 

That’s a phrase people like to throw around, as if e.g. cloud saves are by definition pro or anti consumer. I don’t really know if I agree with that.

 

My SNES is garbage for not supporting cloud saves

 

i think cloud saves are pretty definitively pro-consumer... when they're free. when they're locked behind a paywall they're a product like any other. it's very weird that there are now four Nintendo published games that dont support Nintendo hosted cloud saves, meanwhile third party studios like Obsidian launch with Steam cross-save. it's a reasonable thing to knock imo. especially given that for Pokemon its explicitly to avoid item duplication and mon tampering. that stuff really only affects the single player experience because the comp matchmaking stuff can detect most hacked mons. in Animal Crossing it's more asinine because there is no pvp component at all. let people play single player games how they want imo.

Downloaded Crypt of the Necrodancer and it’s hella fun. My head was bobbing too much and I had to turn it off.

 

It’s reasonable to be annoyed at, but I don’t know if that makes it “anti-consumer”

 

Having a family have to buy a whole nother switch to be able to play a separate copy of Animal Crossing because it doesn't allow for save transfers or cloud storage and you can only have one island per console is definitely anti-consumer.

 

That part probably is. The motive probably wasn't though. I doubt they did it so people will buy more Switches per household. It's probably just incompetence.

 

i was avoiding the third character in Slay the Spire so i had no idea there was a true ending (it required finishing the game as every character).

finished that one today with said character, that was so satisfying. incredible game.
