this reminds me, one of the arguments that my office had was about open toast not being a sandwich

a sandwich means you have to get between 2 things and an open toast doesn’t do that.

i browsed their games and realized i havent played anything from them. they did make leisure suit larry which is vase’s favorite game of all time behind senran kagura

One more thing about the Pokemon discussion: I think wanting all handheld franchises to become full blown console franchises just because the Switch is both a handheld (and, again, in Japan the handheld half is the selling point) and a console is misguided and, if widespread, will lead to the death of plenty of franchises. Since the HD era really took off, handhelds have been the home for a lot of franchises and games that, for various reasons, could not survive as big ass HD console franchises. This is especially the case for Japanese games (Western games of this kind have also found a home on the PC). If anything, people should be happy that the Switch seems to still be a welcoming place for what are essentially handheld games, TV mode or not, because it slows down the process of a lot of franchises and games disappearing. But even with the Switch, it is still happening. The Mario & Luigi RPGs developer closed because of HD development costs. It’s that simple. We should not try to speed up that decline because it is bad for video games.

This is not an attack against anyone personally. You can of course want a Skyrim-like Pokemon. I just think the fact that it isn’t happening is actually a good sign. Along with the Lite and even the Link’s Awakening Remake, it’s a sign of Nintendo still believing in ‘handheld games’ (which also makes sense because portables, INCLUDING the Switch, keep saving them). Precisely the fact that Pokemon is one of their biggest franchises gives this sign extra strength. The developers working on those kind of games need those signs.

 

I remember when Ys VIII came out on Switch. People were instantly dismissing it because it was ugly. It's a port of a Vita game, of course it's not going to be the best looking game on Switch. It's a handheld game. But since the Switch is also a home console some people seem to expect every game to be up to console standards, which isn't a good thing for the small studios that focus on handheld games. Well it's already bad because the Mario & Luigi Devs are already gone

 

also it’s called freaking POCKET Monsters! The games are supposed to fit in your pocket.

 

I’ve said this before but I really hope that the death of the dedicated handhelds doesn’t also mean the death of the top-down handheld style Zelda games. The Link’s Awakening remake gives me hope that it doesn’t mean that will be the case, at least.

Yeah I should’ve said “prior to LA coming out”. But now I’m hoping instead that we get original games and not just remakes!

 

Give me a Minish cap remake too though

 

I mean the Switch Lite is a dedicated handheld though lol

 

but it has enough horsepower to run Breath Of The Wild, so the worry was that’s all anyone would want, to the exclusion of games in the vein of Link Between Worlds.
