I remember getting Colosseum back in the day and never finishing it because it didn't feel like "real" Pokémon to my younger self. Never even tried XD.

 

Again, it’s about margins. MH was niche on handhelds too compared to Pokemon. Pokemon doesn’t need a sales leap because a) it’s already huge and 2) the leap would have to be so huge in order for “proper console visuals” or whatever to make financial sense that it’s unrealistic

 

i hate that XD is also the emote an Invader Zim fan would use after making some joke about pancakes

at the end of the day we are not devs or publishers or boardroom types and we dont know shit about fuck beyond what we have read online. all i know is Mario has never been a sleeper franchise and they shoved all the effort into Odyssey which is a game i would've blind bought no matter what was inside

 

Same goes for Pokémon and Zelda.

 

Not if the sale leap doesn’t make up for the extra development costs, which would be massive. Given that Pokemon already has massive sales, they probably don’t think the leap that could be achieved would be big enough. 3D Mario is very different, because they have set very different expectations with 3D Mario. Those have always been cutting edge.

 

yeah that's what i mean. theres a bunch if franchises under Nintendo's umbrella that have built up enough goodwill that id by any new entry no questions asked. one of those is Pokemon, and it's the only one that hasn't floored me at any point in the last five years

 

I just have to remember that I'm going to be too stuffed full of curry to care about any of this stuff come tomorrow

 

Yeah like it's just weird that Pokémon is the only one of those three where I'm thinking "why didn't they go all out on this one?"

 

Mario 3D World was a great game but it did nothing new for the franchise and Galaxy 2 was pretty much Galaxy 1 remix ft Yoshi

 

Galaxy 2 is my fav Mario game though no shade

Well yeah that was the WiiU game lol and Galaxy 2 was a follow up for a console that somehow wouldn’t stop selling. I think those are exceptions to the rule. I’m not even sure if they’d count 3D World as core.

 

3D World was great even if it was more like a 2D Mario on a 3D plane, but it had this weird effect on my tv and would commonly come through as real snowy looking. no other game has ever done it to this day but i could never fix it for SM3DW

 

I would love for a 3D World 2

 

Also I’ll just say this, for the AvErAgE GaMeR this year’s Switch line-up would look pretty barren w/o Pokémon. Maybe they just had to ship this year so they can make guidance and not undersell like they did last year.

 

And also, the main problem with Pokémon seems to be the graphics, is that right?

 

3D World is my fave 3D Mario that isn't Sunshine

 

this feels very feasible but in that case i wonder what this year's release would've been in a different timeline

 

for some, but the biggest issue for most is a big cut to content with nothing new to replace what we lost

 

Switch is a console.

 

this post makes me so excited for arguments about things not called Pokemon to resume

 

Part of why the Switch is so successful is because it's treated as a console that can be played handheld in the West, and as a handheld that can be played as a Console in Japan.

 

the Switch's primary use is the video game community's "is a hot dog a sandwich?"
