I can always be better, so I'll always try. Supporter

"Audiophile re-releases" of Pastel Blues and I Put A Spell On You coming November 6 on vinyl.

I actually have a big Nina Simone knowledge gap outside the obvious songs. Can someone summarize the differences between these two albums in a sentence? I might want to put one of these on my birthday list.

Pastel is a bit more tonally consistent to R&B/soul and has signatures like "Be My Husband" and "Sinnerman", plus her version of "Strange Fruit". If I recall, @George is a charter member of its fan club. I think I personally prefer Spell, which is a bit more eclectic and orchestrated and has killers like the title track and "No Me Quitte Pas".

Honestly, they're both pretty essential, imo.

I’m starting to think Silk & Soul is my favorite Nina Simone album. I think it has moved past Sings The Blues for me.

She just has so much depth that I feel like everyone can find unique favorites in there. It's a wealth of riches and there's something for every style.

"I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to be Free" is really something.
