I can't wait for this but it really doesn't seem to have as much of a buzz as I thought it would. Maybe I'm speaking too soon though

it had way more buzz a few months ago. it was at one time the best picture front runner on all the prognosticating sites and is the first pic back from a master after he had a hit that won a bunch of awards. once the early word came in that it’s kinda meh the buzz died down.

Was surprised how much i enjoyed this. I could easily see Bradley Cooper sneaking away with an Oscar nod. Cinematography too

This was oooooookkk. Top notch atmosphere, sets and performances. Story was really the just ok part. Was expecting something a little more wild from GDT.

my theater made a really stupid gaffe that made us all wait another 30 minutes to watch this so that really fucked my clean slate with this up, but yeah i was mostly whelmed with this all in all. feels like GdT pissed his editor off at times

And I thought Last Night In Soho was going to be my biggest disappointment this year.

This was fine. Probably his best film.

Liked it, didn’t love it sadly. Gorgeously made. Cooper was good.

Honestly liked this a lot. I think there’s way more going on character- and theme-wise than some people (not ITT) are giving it credit for, even if the plot isn’t necessarily reinventing the wheel. The final scene is one of the bleakest things I’ve seen in a while.

it's funny that this and Crimson Peak both take place at least partially in Buffalo
this and Power Of The Dog would be an interesting double feature
Willem Dafoe was clearly born to play a depraved carnie and of course Cate was perfectly cast, it was def jarring though every time he called Bradley kid
this was really well acted and I enjoyed it

First half was a pretty aimless slog and I found myself dazing off several times, which is disappointing because that was the part with Defoe and Collette. But after the time skip and introduction of Cate Blanchett I was pretty hooked.

Between this, Her, and Social Network, Rooney Mara has clearly been typecast as “love interest who is promptly ignored when she tries to explain to male protagonist exactly what is fucked up about him”

I actually enjoyed the first half prior to the time skip much more than the second. Cooper did a great job, but his character become wildly uneven to the point where I started to lose interest. The film had an incredible look all around with such a deep cast. Right down to the final scene even…

Agreed on the Mara typecast. That is spot on. She did well with what she was given in this at least.

I cannot understand why they would pick Dec 17th for the release date. Bad for so many reasons.

Would be a B- for me.

I noticed a lot of this as well. Would like to watch it again to pick up on more of it.
