i don't necessarily love him as an actor (great musician) but I thought his performance in this was great. conveyed a lot while unable to see much of anything as a viewer

yeah I should clarify I thought he was great in this but just in general I think he’s average.

  7. Blindspotting good but kinda agree with grimmy on Daveed

Finally just sat for this. Been slacking but knew I had to catch this while still in a theater

  8. Man. I am so impressed with the care and craftsmanship that went into this. RaMell is one hell of a storyteller. There are so many things here that he chooses to show us that feel uniquely essential. I lowkey dread reading the book now a bit as this was quite affecting enough, but am very intrigued about the source material that inpsired this vision. Can’t wait to finally throw on the Fennessey interview in the morning

Incredible film. Something that I love in films where the timeline jumps around is you’ll find out from just the dialogue without being shown of things that have happened to characters. Pete in the bar talking about what they did to the boy who forgot to throw the match gave me chills. That whole scene the actor who played Pete did such a great job conveying someone who’s been through severe trauma and abuse. He legitimately scared me and now knowing what happened to Elwood, it was pretty ominous how he kept prying about his true identity.

I think it’s pretty fucked up that nobody talks about this movie. Did it do okay in theaters?

It had a small run and was dumped on prime with little fanfare. Was lucky to get in for best picture at all.

shame it really was the best film of the year

This is the time where genuinely great films separate from the hype. Tell everyone you know to watch it, talk about it every time you get a chance, and when the best of the 2020's lists start coming out in four years it will be given its rightful place.

My parents, who actually have pretty decent taste in movies generally, couldn't get through it. I think a lot of viewers struggle with / don't get / are alienated by the first-person approach. I suspect it'll get its due as a great and important movie in the longer run, though.
