Cool to see Sean from Shrinking in this but he looks waaaay younger somehow

 

The last scene broke me. I sat there devastated as the credits started. This is vital, creative, brilliant storytelling.

People love to talk about a film needing to be seen twice but this one will reveal new things a second time when you understand what the point-of-view and the story structure is leading toward.

Excellent 30 mins in before my wife fell asleep and I had to stop it

It’s a work night and she’s pregnant. And she does this with every movie. I knew what I signed up for

 

I took precautions for The Brutalist and Nickel Boys. I am out of town an hour behind, so I am already getting up early, so I went to swim, eat, and then take a nap before I went to see the movies. I too often go tired, eat too much, and then pass out.

 

Incredible film.

 

Wow. This was truly something special.

 

This thing is unbelievable. Will never understand how this didn’t get a Cinematography nom. Glad it is in the Best Picture race tho obviously, what an achievement.

 

Very good. I do think the POV worked best in the first quarter of the movie, but the ending crushed me as well

 

Watched this last night and still not over the ending, been thinking all day about how well it was woven into the film. Hopefully the oscar nom will get it into cinemas here.

 

this was really something. i had one minor complaint about the framing device but other than that it is pretty close to perfect.

 

what was your complaint?

 

casting someone as recognizable as daveed diggs to play adult "elwood." I wish either we didn't hear the adult version addressed as elwood or that we didn't see elwood from turner's perspective. it's a mild complaint but realizing pretty much immediately that it was diggs playing the adult put it in my head that it was turner adopting elwood's name. it didn't ruin the movie, which was pretty close to perfect to me. just a minor nitpick.

 

that's funny bc my wife also recognized his voice but she didn't piece that last part together. I didn't recognize him or his voice myself and didn't see it coming at all.

 

Yeah I dont know who Daveed is, I thought his hair line match up with teen Elwood and didnt see it coming
