Debut feature length fiction film from RaMell Ross, who previously was nominated for an Oscar for his 2018 documentary Hale County This Morning, This Evening. Based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead. This debuted at Telluride and has been getting a lot of early Oscar buzz. From AmazonMGM. Will get a 10/25 limited release. Is shot in a first person perspective.

one of the best all of last year. hard not to sound hyperbolic to those who haven't watched, but this flattened me. first time in a while where i sat through the credits due to the impact

I know this is going to be great but the first-person thing brings up the nightmare that was Hardcore Henry.

Can’t stop thinking about this. Truly brilliant camerawork, unbelievable score and soundtrack (shout out to Alex Somers, and the Mulatu Astatke needle-drop at the end), profoundly moving story, and images that will stick with me. And the moment all the dots connected was pure cinema magic—not a lot of people were in the theater but I guarantee we were all either crying or misty-eyed at that point.

I like that the Uncle Tom cop looks exactly like Eric Adams

I’m sure that’s true but if I went to the theater today I would probably catch Nosferatu or The Substance first. Trying to play catchup
