Nick Cave's gift: a skeleton key that unlocks the source of songwriting Great perspective on the film accompanying the album
This is my first Nick Cave album but it's stunning. So bleak. Sonically, brings to mind Blackstar quite a few times.
stereogum Premature Evaluation: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Skeleton Tree 9.0 from the fork Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Skeleton Tree Album Review | Pitchfork i liked push the sky away, im looking forward to checking this out
I've listened to nothing but this record ever since I first played it last night. What an fantastic piece of art. The whole thing is just so full of emotion, each song hits hard. The closing block ("I Need You" > "Distant Sky" > "Skeleton Tree") is one of the best closing blocks I've ever heard on a record. This has definitely jumped into my top 5 records of the year.
Is this a good place to start for first time listeners? From what I understand his style changes quite a bit over the years, but this discography is to massive to consume all at once.
This is all I've listened to from him but I didn't find it difficult to get into, if that's what you're asking.
I thought Sufjan's "Fourth of July" was the saddest song I'd ever heard until "Girl in Amber" came along. Had no idea grief could be captured so vividly in music.
Spinning The Boatman’s Call tonight. There are times I think it might be my favorite Nick Cave album.
Mine is definitely Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, with Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! right at its heels. It's a shame we don't have enough interest to support a real Nick Cave thread around here.
