Maybe he has inside info that says otherwise, but the NFLPA fact sheet includes gambling revenue being included in the player all revenue formula.

And I imagine it has to be included, because there's no way revenue goes up $500 million a year just off one more week of games + 2 playoff games.

    (:

The owners and the officials are two things that ruin the NFL for me, the players, I like the players.

Lol people are making too big a deal about the fine parts of this deal and not enough a big deal about the bad parts.

also I acknowledge dustins point that 17 games breaks the Jeff Fishers of the world and I am against it now.

    The rivalry is back on

I don’t think I agree. Everything in these labor negotiations, especially as it relates to public perception, is about posturing and being as loud as possible in visceral disagreement with anything and everything tangential to the proposal that might strengthen your case. The proposal is probably mostly fine with built in room for improvement on the player side in the event they continue to go back and forth, but so much of the media coverage will lean on the extreme for both sides

I guess more what I meant was, the people who are mad are mad about the wrong things in my estimation. You want an entire extra meaningful regular-season game AND more playoff revenue? Get ready to write a fat check.

Would be cool if owners all retired and let the players split all revenue

If I'm a player rep, i'm wanting some very detailed understanding of how gambling revenue will come in to play. That's a well ready to burst and you know the owners are gonna want it.

Yeah I haven't even gotten into how I'd respond as a player TBH

Just being selfish right now and looking at it from a fan standpoint and what it'd do to the product as a whole

there is no way they are going to accept the $250k max for the extra 17th game

basically if you make over $4 million, you get screwed over

Right. That's nonsense. Also, the owners being willing to relent on Roger being the decider of punishments is such a red herring. That impacts maybe .0002% of players. Go for the Money. Go for a salary cap floor, go for more transparency in how the cap is managed, go for higher minimums, go for expanded roster sizes...hell, go for fucking weed. All of these things are more important than the discipline issue.

Yeah, I dont get this one...only theory Ive even loosely heard floated is the 17 game season wont start for a while (so, not in 2021, maybe more likely in 2022 or 2023 at earliest), so the actual number of players it affects is small. There are ~100 players with base salaries higher than $5mil or so in 2022 right now; of ~1700 NFL players. There's only 68 players total with any base salary in 2023, and only 55 of them would lose any money off of this (so 3% of players)

But it should be super easy to just say "17th game = another 1/16th of expected salary". I cant imagine owners are going to TV networks and handing them the extra games for fun.

I will say they got all these things. The cash floor was raised. League Mins were all raised, and performance based stuff for people drafted in later rounds is apparently going up a lot. They expanded the active roster by 2 slots.

Til the actual language is released, its impossible to know if the players got rolled, but so far they've expanded on everything they gained in 2010 (cash floors, % of revenue, limits on offseason work, expansion of post-career benefits) and gotten stuff they couldnt then (Goodell out of the suspension process). It sounds like the gambling side is defined for them (if its not, then yeah, they're gonna get screwed big time).

The real thing I cant see is what the players gave up. In 2010 they had to fight like hell to keep what they had (owners wanted to cut their revenue share). Here, everything seems to have expanded, and all they gave up is a 17 game schedule that pays them more anyway (17th game v 4th preseason game).

As a fan, Id rather it stay exactly as it was at 16 games. But Im not seeing the loss for the players so far.

And I'm not trying to like "dig in" against you @preppyak, you're way smarter than me when it comes to this stuff. I just truly believe the NFL players get absolutely dominated in these CBA discussions every time and the owners rushing to sign this screams red flag to me. That's why I think the target is the gambling money.

    Nope. Supporter

Yeah that was my point in bringing it up yesterday, like I just remember last time it was this was an excruciatingly long process and we were getting daily reports of the back and forth between owners/players and this time around it just, seemed to all fall into place in a matter of days? Something doesn't smell right here

I don’t trust the owners at all / don’t trust that we’ve gotten all the information. But everything released aside from the game 17 salary limit sounds like things that should’ve been approved LAST CBA
