They specifically said that literally that kind of quick slant play was observed and prepared for leading up to the game. The fact that an undrafted rookie made one of the greatest defensive Super Bowl plays in NFL history just goes to show how smart their coaching was to identify and execute on pure film study.

Now, I could argue that the main reason the Patriots even came back was due to injuries in the Seahawks’ secondary. They were already playing hurt to begin the game but I believe two of them got knocked out in the second half. Specifically one snapped his arm in half in a gruesome play. After those, Brady was at like 120+ passer rating or something, right?

Brady was like 12/14 250 and 2 TDs in the second half. He was on fire.

It’s crazy. A couple things break one way and the Patriots have nine 10 rings, or like 2 lol.

(Giantsx2, Eagles, and 06 when they lost to the Colts in the AFC championship because Caldwell can’t catch. We would have murdered the bears.)

  4. I can definitely understand the Super Bowl rings issue - but (again, despite how much I have loved watching TB12 be the QB for my local team) a lot of folks put Brees and Rogers in the "GOAT" category.

At the end of the day, if Mahomes has say 2 more rings and just annihilates all of the passing records it's safe to say he should be considered the greatest. Hell, no one's brought up Montana in this conversation and the guy has 4 rings and like 3 Super Bowl MVPs.

Anyways - it's personally a fun discussion for me so hopefully no one thinks I'm just being an a-hole by continuing the debate.

I'm sorry but Lynch sucks and wouldn't have gotten the TD

    That narrative is tired bullshit

    (:

Yeah that narrative is such bullshit even though he rushed for over 100 yards. I highly disagree that narrative is bullshit.

Lynch is a terrible red zone RB and the play the Seahawks called had a historic 100% success rate prior to that exact play

Patriots made a freak play alongside having incredible film study

It's a bullshit narrative. Always has been and always will be and I'm so tired of hearing it. It's the most exhausting incorrect argument

Lynch had a well documented history of being stuffed on short first down runs like that all season.

The pass play call was great but the throw wasn’t good AND the Patriots preparation and execution was all time level.

Also Malcolm Butler fucked up the play every day in practice prior to this game

So many things broke right for the Pats on 1 play

Yeah, it was a crazy play alright. Imagine if he doesn’t make the play.

Everybody would be in awe that Carroll/Wilson had the forethought and thinking to surprise everyone for a quick and easy pass for a Super Bowl winning pass.

Eh I don’t think so. It’s not like Brady hasn’t also put up ridiculous passing stats along with unparalleled post season success. You’ll need more than 2. Maybe if he also gets there like 6 or 7 times though who knows. Then if his passing stats are clearly better it could give him the edge.
And Montana is always in the goat conversation lol. I feel like he’s always discussed right behind Brady. He was amazing

Comparing Mahomes situation to Rodgers doesn’t really work. Andy Reid is a better coach who knows how to use more of the talent on his roster than McCarthy. McCarthy is the reason Rodgers has only gone once. Awful coaching decisions in the playoffs / complete failure to adjust to teams with successful rushing attacks & secondaries happened regularly in Rodgers’ career.

You could’ve said Reid chokes too but this last playoff run got the monkey off his back, I think. For him it’s not a failure to adjust because he’s always kept up with teams in big games, even though he has lost NFCCGs and a Super Bowl by choking at the end of the game.

For him it’s just, he needs to not overthink the playcall when it’s late in the game and you need a first down. Chiefs game flow looked so much less erratic this season than Reid has in the past.

Having an unreal qb helps cover up coaches flaws

Exactly and even with Rodgers it was clear McCarthy is a subpar coach who cannot deviate from his original plan for the game.

Reid, meanwhile, has always been a good coach and having an elite QB is bringing out the best in him.

Mahomes has 1 Super Bowl and 1 appearance. And the 49ers easily could have won that game. It’s fine to say it’s possible but it seems crazy to argue he’s going to win 5 or 6. The point of the Rodgers comparison is that it’s fucking hard, and everyone was assuming he was going to have multiple wins after he won 1 early. In hindsight it’s easy to blame McCarthy but nobody was saying this about him after his super bowl win either.

Exactly. 2011 Packers went 15-1 and then blew it in their first playoff game. Ravens went 14-2 with the unanimous MVP this year and blew it in their first playoff game.

It’s fucking HARD to consistently win.

    @Drew Beringer was. Lmao.

They also lost a playoff game soon after that super bowl because they let Colin Kaepernick convert like 12 third downs with his legs, and never changed their defensive approach.

I’m not saying Mahomes WILL win that many but I am saying I won’t be shocked if his legacy rivals Tom’s. Even with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence coming into the league, the two most NFL ready prospects in quite some time, I still don’t think they can do the things Mahomes does. Mahomes may have been less of a “sure thing” because he’s so aggressive but he has done well in the NFL to fully reach his upside and minimize his old flaws.

KC defense is currently playing better / more reliably than Rodgers’ defense in GB usually does too.

  24. I think the main reason I am adamant about Mahomes is his resiliency. Where as Rogers and even Brady can get beat down Mahomes just seems to keep rising to the challenge.

A lot of very talented QBs have folded with the pressure on (Marino, Rivers even Elway).

The attitude Mahomes has is great in my opinion. Like I aid we shall see.

I just love discussing the game and you all have brought up some good points to counter my argument.

Also, kinda nuts, I looked it up and Andy Reid has coached:

    Brett Favre
    Donovan McNabb
    Michael Vick
    Alex Smith
    Patrick Mahomes

And Favre Vick and Smith all got coached by other people in their careers but had their best years with Reid.

Reid really squeezes the potential out of QBs. I do not think the comparison between him and McCarthy is even close tbh. It’s been documented that sometimes Rodgers even ignores McCarthy and calls his own play haha.
