The precedent is they traded three seconds to take the 4th best QB in the class

You keep picking up Charcandrick West and trading him for 5th round picks.

    West REALLY hates you.

Theres no real way to fix that i guess. Its just a funny thing you can do. One time i traded three FA DEs to the Chargers and they were like "too many players on roster! Better cut Joey Bosa!"

I guess the question is why would the Rams willingly give up a pick when they can cut him before March 20th and basically break even on the cap this year. I get why Gurley would want that trade...it'd keep his guaranteed roster bonus money flowing, but the Rams giving up value for it would be crazy.

Osweiler had a BUNCH of guaranteed salary they had to get out of. Gurley doesnt...his 2020 salary isnt guaranteed right now. Nor is his 2021 roster bonus. They'd eat $19mil in cap cutting him right now against like a $17-18mil cap number...and avoiding $10mil in real cash they'd have to spend.

edit: Also, somehow they still have $23mil in cap space, the abiliy to save money by signing Ramsey long-term, and they can probably turn Goff's roster bonus into a signing bonus and save like $15mil in cap space too.

I mean, for that I'd want to be at #2 and guarantee I get Burrows or Tua. And WAS desperately needs the depth, so they'd take that I bet.

as long as the Dolphins end up with Tua and don't have to trade 18 or 26, I don't care what else they have to give up

take Gurley and have him split carries/passing downs to keep him fresh and draft someone like Dobbins in the 2nd

Wait why would the Rams trade Gurley and a 2nd for a 5th in that scenario? That makes zero sense. Unless maybe the wording is confusing me there

It's the Osweiler trade theory; dump guaranteed salary for a draft pick to clear space.

But that was kind of unique because Osweiler's contract was all guaranteed salary + roster bonus money ($16mil in base salary guaranteed)...whereas Gurley only has $5.5mil in roster bonus guaranteed. Houston saved like $10mil by trading Osweiler, the Rams, if they traded Gurley before 3/20, would save about $4mil. Also, Gurley >>>> Osweiler in terms of talent. And the contract a team takes on is way better than Osweilers (who was an injury away from a team owing him $16mil/yr for the remaining 3 years)
