I spent every game last year wondering why a DL with Yannick, Dareus, Campbell and Allen wasn’t stopping the run at all.

 

That would make me so ungodly happy.

 

Only one of those guys is good at stopping the run and he's old and probably checked out.

 

Well Yannick has never been good against the run, but I’d rather a pass rusher be better at rushing the passer anyway so it’s w/e

Disrespected veterans with nothing to play for and nothing to prove

Or

Young players who are fighting to prove they are good every day?

I would obviously rather take the veterans if they’re motivated. 2017 Jags defense was amazing.

But I don’t think that the Jags defense last year was that much better.... than starting from scratch with only four core players (Allen, Schobert, Harrison, and Jack) and drafting some people this year.

Not because Bouye / Campbell etc aren’t way better talent. But because they just didn’t want to put it all on the line like that for JAX anymore, by the time we let them go. They legitimately did not move the needle for us anymore. We gave up ridiculous yards all over the place in spite of them.

There’s a reason why you get rid of even good talent when a new regime takes over. The old players will never perform as well as they did when things were going good.

I’m not trying to misrepresent anyone’s argument - I see y’alls point but my counter is that we were already near rock bottom anyway, because we weren’t getting the same Pro Bowl effort as we used to get from those players.

They’re still good and they will probably bounce back on their new teams. But a losing culture is a losing culture. That was already there before we traded those players.

 

Right, but a lot of other teams picking in the top ten this year have made an effort this offseason to make their offenses better (see: Panthers, Cardinals, Browns) or they will in the draft (see: Bengals, maybe Dolphins and/or Chargers).

The Jaguars have not.

With that said, teams off the top of my head that I think have a chance to pick in the top five in the 2021 draft: Giants, Washington, Panthers, Jaguars, Raiders, maybe even Jets

 

Why are you saying this pre emptively? You’re acting like signing free agents is the main way to build on a young offense. Yeah we didn’t go out and sign expensive offensive players and I’m glad for that. Obviously we’ll be adding talent in the draft.

We have more draft picks than all those teams except Miami. Why wouldn’t you include us in the “they will in the draft” category?

Jets are very bad but idk how they didnt finish bottom five this year so I'm torn on projecting them there this year

 

Because relying on draft picks to come in and contribute at a high level immediately is not a strategy to bank on and the teams I mentioned specifically are taking quarterbacks or at least probably will.

 

Cole Kmet and Tyler Johnson would noticeably improve the offense actually. No one said we have to draft those positions early. Trey Adams has that potential too.

 

They are another team that has done absolutely nothing of significance to help Sam Darnold this offseason. It’s sad
