Is this the post you're talking about? Sorry I was finishing an old thought. This is what I do instead of editing now. I hadn't gotten to your post yet.

Maybe revisiting some games unbiased might be a good idea for me to double check this... but as it stands I actually liked that he was overly conservative about where he put the ball. From my memory, Chark made circus catches because Minshew tried to extend his catch radius to avoid the defender having a chance at the pick.

He wasn't precise about ball placement but I didn't say that was one of his + traits, I said he had good anticipation and pocket presence. The timing is good.. the accuracy is a little inconsistent.

What I watched was the opposite, not an extension but rather just missing a bit short and Chark either having to run back to the defender or even catch the ball around the defender. I agree about your analysis of Minshew as a whole, but I disagree that there's reason to believe he's any less pick prone than Daniel Jones as it stands right now, after 1 season of play where Minshew was fairly lucky and Jones had pretty bad weapons outside of Saquon, and I disagree he'd be a top 10 pick in a redraft

I did call out Houston and New Orleans as two games where he cracked and played uncharacteristically poorly. I did see some almost-INTs in those games.

I saw some in MANY games, I actually only watched the 1st Houston game, didn't watch the 2nd or the NO game. Most of the Minshew games I watched were outside of those 3

To further legitimize your argument, I saw this on deep throws. He's not a deep bomb QB. Which is why i think the anticipation is an important trait cause he has to get the ball there early.

It's why my description of Minshew as a whole is "horizontally gifted and vertically challenged" hahaha

What I like about Minshew is that all his mistakes do appear to be physical, not mental (outside of the actual pocket movements which could be sketchy). But...that's also a bad sign in terms of whether or not it'll get cleaned up, and a good argument his pick count will regress to the mean (which yes can mean an increase as well, regress to absolute)

Maybe this is semantic and not actually what you meant, but when you say this I think of, like, Teddy Bridgewater or early career Alex Smith. I think it's not giving enough credit to the fact that he can "throw people open" downfield in some situations - just not the ones where a CB is running step for step with Chark.

Like, he's more likely to get those yards throwing a post or a corner right before the WR makes his break, because he's quick to notice the safety's hips in the opposite direction. Timing-specific stuff like that still makes him capable of running vertical plays, at least enough to offset the more short & midrange shit.

I think it's a matter of trusting his mind more and his arm less. QBs have done it before. Rivers, Pennington are two pretty solid examples. It's also good that he scrambles to throw and sees running as a last resort - it's not like he *thinks* he's fast haha.

I mean, I didnt' want to say these names cause everyone might overreact and act like this is a talent comparison.

But Tom Brady and Drew Brees started out as touch passers who struggled to push the ball downfield too. It's not impossible to develop a tigher throwing motion and get better at throwing deep.

Minshew is probably RIGHT NOW working on developing a stronger arm while this CV crisis is going on haha

Minshew right now is probably pissed off at his decision to buy an RV and travel the country.

Okay my response is gonna have to wait I keep starting up again and getting cut off and now I'm going off to do other things for the day haha

But the tldr is that Minshew can get better at certain aspects of throwing deep but I do think there's reason to believe he's gonna throw a lot more picks than last year still (even adjusting for how few games he played last season) and to say that Minshew in a room full of weapons is hands down better than Daniel Jones with no weapons is extremely premature still even if you believe that he'll improve
