I think he's good enough to center our offense around and give a legitimate shot. I don't see him as a QB we should draft a replacement for. We don't have to make that call until his contract year. (unless of course, Burrow or Lawrence is a possibility.)

None of that means top 10. It means, decent starter for now with PLENTY of room to grow. It's gonna rely on a lot of variables but he has real NFL QB potential.

 

He throws a mean outside ball, doesn't float his throws, but also his vertical accuracy is abysmal at times. His pocket presence is pretty good for how bad his line has played at times, he can generate big plays when things break down. His WRs are gonna help out a LOT. I think he's gonna look very very good and end up being kinda overrated, but yeah there's promise there. He's gonna have some VERY bad games at times where he believes in himself a bit too much but there's good reason to believe he'll be good.

 

See, idk, i didn't see anything from him that would prevent me from drafting Herbert if he fell to me. Or would take me out of the QB market. If I were the Jags I'd be on the phone with Cam right now. I just don't "get" it I guess. Idk how his job is so damn secure that they're not even considering "what if last year was just a flash in the pan?"

 

Watching Herbert is enough to prevent me from drafting Herbert

 

Like Randall, you floated a scenario where TUA drops into the 2nd round. That means if you were the Jags, you'd pass on Tua TWICE!

If Tu'a falls to 9 he'd warrant a SERIOUS look but given injury problems, no physicals, and the Jags not ACTIVELY looking for a QB right now, not a guarantee he's the pick that makes the most sense.

 

Yeah you can't not draft Tua if he's available that late

 

like, the Jags definitely are safe enough with Minshew to not try to compete with other teams to trade up for Tu'a, that's for sure.

I think every team in the NFL that doesn't have an elite QB should call Cincinnati though, even if they don't answer.

 

Because he showed traits that almost every rookie QB struggles with early on. His anticipation was shockingly nuanced. And while he holds the ball too long and scrambles too wildly, he does frequently flash the ability to "sense" a rusher coming behind him without looking, plus the decisiveness to step up or dip out of the pocket at exactly the right time. While looking downfield and reading the defense.

Most rookie QB do not show you that kind of pocket presence and ability to plan ahead that early into their careers.

 

A) Cincy isn't trading down idk why you live for that pipe dream lol
B) If the Jags didn't draft Tua at 9 I'd be roasting them forever
C) If the Jags traded up for Tua, i'd probably think that was silly so i feel like i'm being fair to Minshew.

Romo drastically exceeded projections of his talent, and while that's not necessarily "likely" for Minshew, there's precedent there to develop him and see.

 

Idk how you can watch Minshew and not see potential.

 

Yeah i mean maybe if someone only watched his bad games haha. Like vs Houston in London he couldn't do anything for some reason. And the Saints just shut our receivers and offensive line down in general, they were the #1 defense at the time.

But most of his 12 games, Minshew was actually elevating the offense, believe it or not. Given our putrid history of quarterbacks, I haven't seen a QB do that for Jacksonville in a long time.

 

If Tua falls to #9, Id be terrified of what worried other QB needy teams to pass on him, when the trend lately has been for teams to give up a lot to get inside the top 10 picks to take any seemingly solid QB (Darnold, Allen, Trubisky, Rosen, Goff, Wentz, etc).

You have to go back to like 2013/2014 to get QB options that were so dogshit that nobody wanted to take them in the top 10. This draft feels a lot more like a 2012 or a 2018 where there are top tier options that teams are going to want.

 

I don't think I've said I don't see potential there. I think he has the potential to be an okay QB. I think maybe i'm overstating my critique. I think he has potential to be top 20 or something like that. I just don't think he's so good that you don't SPRINT to the mic if TUA is available at 9. Or you don't give Cam a call and see what's up.

Alright that's the point where I just don't agree, and we'll just have to see how it plays out. I think you'll see that you're underrating him kinda harshly this season.

 

Minshew is better than Cam.

 

Like getting rid of Foles makes all the sense in the world to me. I was anti benching Minshew for Foles during the season, as opposed to you guys lol, but idk i don't think the Jags QB Room should be as settled as it seems to be.

 

If Tua falls, yes. Herbert? Absolutely not.

 

This feels about right. Though Id be terrified of what Miami thought of Tua if they passed on him at 5 to take like Herbert. And Id be just as worried that a team like Vegas didnt trade up into the top 10 to grab him

the Tu'a argument is fine if you love Tu'a as a prospect and think his injury isn't gonna affect him.

Yeah, I guess we'll see. I'd take a shot on Cam if I were the Jags and see if he's healthy. Healthy Cam is 100 times better than Minshew to me. Sorry. He's just not been healthy so people forget he was really really good.
