Exactly I like Kirk Cousins in general, that's just SO much cap space taken up for something that's not gonna get better. I honestly didn't have that much of a problem with his first contract, bad as it was. I have a problem with repeating that.

I think people underestimate the gap between an above average QB and a bad QB. They should do what they can to keep Cousins because it means a very good chance of at least playoffs.

Yeah I mean that’s “let’s be a perennial winning team” money. If you’re struggling to even do that then taking a risk on a rookie is absolutely better than spending that much guaranteed on a vet.

In the NFL you’re either reaching your goals or reassessing your methods. There’s no “almost” or “maybe” if you’re being decisive.

 

I second this. I thought it made sense for the Vikings, who were clearly in a win-now mode, to sign him and see where he could take them. I just think it’s really confusing that they decided to double down on him now after the OC that coaxed his best season out of him got a HC gig somewhere else. Cousins is a sure bet to regress in 2020 and the Vikings are gonna sit there looking like idiots paying him a bunch more of guaranteed money while the rest of their roster suffers

 

Weird priority for the Browns

 

Good wide receivers and good running backs are easier to replace than good QBs. I’m not saying Cousins is a world beater but he’s worth keeping around imo.

I get the other side of the argument with how things SHOULD be but that’s not how things are now. Quarterbacks are paid more than they’re worth (minus 2-3 elite dudes) and that’s just the way it is. If you want an above average quarterback, you’re going to pay through the nose for it OR pray you get lucky in the draft/free agency, which is extremely rare.
