They don't have to pay every QB the amount they paid Cousins. They can get similar production for less or slightly less production for WAY less and not handicap the franchise to Kirk for the next 2 years, opening themselves up to build a team around a QB they can draft.

That’s my point then: I don’t think they can get similar level talent for less money. If someone played as well as Cousin’s then they’re going to demand and get the same as Cousin’s anyways.

 

I'll remember this when they draft a QB in 2-3 years and have absolutely nothing to support him with, it was worth it for all those divisional round losses

You don't need similar talent to Cousins at all, you need more than that and if you're not getting more than that it's not worth paying that much for. It's not that hard

 

It just sucks to watch. My dad is a Vikings fan and they had so much talent over the last few seasons, but they were always a QB away. Now they've back themselves into the Cousins corner while still struggling with a poor offensive line, a deteriorating cornerback room, and now potentially losing longtime edge rusher Everson Griffen while struggling to make more cap room to reload.

But, hey, at least they re-signed Anthony Barr and are doubling down on Cousins now.

Unless Cousins hits a magical talent growth spurt at 31 where QBs frequently famously improve I don't get what the Vikings will expect

 

Well, I can guarantee they have a better shot with someone like Cousins than hoping and wishing you hit in the draft, because that’s crazy rare.

I really think the Vikings should be honest with themselves about their situation, and start tearing down and rebuilding for the future. Keep young, promising players (particularly Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter) and trade/cut some of the aging guys in their late 20s/early 30s for whatever value you can get.

 

Do you know how often these QBs in the draft are indebted to the situation they're put in? Keeping Cousins ruins those situations and can cripple those QBs before they even have a chance to succeed by taking away from other resources. I won't say it again because at this point you're talking in circles haha. I don't need to have a Randall Joust.

 

Big fan of trading away everything

 

If you are paying him that money his abilities ~should~ be able to take over games and put them in a position to win on a consistent basis. He’s shown time and time again he will disappear or be non-existent in the game plan, I feel like when you have an offensive core of Diggs/cook/thielen and still stout/competent defense you should be able to get out of the wild card round more decisively.

 

It absolutely is. How many teams are consistently in the playoffs or at least in the playoff conversation every season that don’t have a quarterback?

 

Exactly. The Vikings have an INCREDIBLE offense and Cousins is like, completely neutral. He wont make you any better or worse

How often did the Chiefs go to the playoffs with Alex Smith but never make it far? At some point, you need to stop, reevaluate, and move on. You're not always going to luck into Patrick Mahomes, but they Chiefs realized that Alex Smith was who he was and wasn't going to take them to where they wanted to go.

 

Vikings should also consider moving on from Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer, but they won't because they've been consistently stuck in limbo since Zimmer joined the team
