Vikings backed themselves into this corner anyway. They had no feasible plan behind Cousins if 2020 were to be his final year in Minnesota. It's poor team management, especially considering how critical this offseason is for them in terms of cap space and player turnover. Vikings have a lot of needs for a team that thinks they are in a playoff window but aren't good enough to get further than they got this past season.

 

True. Not like you can just trade a 5th round pick to Miami or something and get a guy that immediately does more than cousins ever will

 

The more I think about it the more I'm not sure how rare it is anymore. I feel like we've had a large number of QBs good enough to be franchise guys enter the league and while it is all tentative on future performance of course, I think in the end gambling on that is immensely better than continuously giving Kirk Cousins quality QBs bad contracts

Pointing out the rare situations like that doesn’t hold up when I show you the dozen quarterbacks drafted every year who suck and never even get on the field.

It’s weird, I figured you and elf would agree with me seeing as your teams struggled to find even a decent quarterback for years/decades.

My team also has only drafted spent meaningful picks on 2 QBs ever, 1 is our franchise QB and the other we killed and then he got a ring. The Texans took forever to get a decent QB because we kept paying Kirk Cousinses instead of going to the draft and taking risks.

 

My opinion has been pretty consistent tbh. Always said after the AFCCG to let Bortles go and fire the staff because you weren't ever getting better than that.

That's 3 times we have drafted a QB in a top half round in our franchise's history. Doing what the Vikings are doing is exactly WHY we haven't been able to get a true franchise QB till now.

 

It takes an extremely well built and coached team to make it anywhere in the playoffs if you don’t have at least an average quarterback. And even then, consistently making the playoffs without a good/great quarterback is even more rare.

We can differ on ideology but they make the most money for a reason. They’re the most important player on the team and most influential on consistently winning.
