Why are people acting like Cousins isn’t good? He not elite but he’s quite above average and definitely a franchise quarterback.

Cousins is arguably the reason why Minnesota isnt an elite team. I've seen nothing in the last two years that showed me they should give him two more after this one.

3. He's kinda above average
4. I think if he's definitively anything it's not a franchise QB

 

I guess we have different definitions of franchise quarterbacks. If you’re consistent above average, then you are, imo

 

And like...if you pay $45 for a filet mignon and it's only "fine" are you really signing up to have dinner there the next two nights as well?

 

I think Cousins is good, but he's not great and is never going to be great. He reminds me of Alex Smith. He's good enough to lead you to a winning season and to the playoffs (maybe even net you a playoff win!), but he's not going to take you as far as you should want given that his upside is capped

I think the bar for a franchise QB is raised with 1. how the league is now and 2. how old your QB is and how much you've gotten done before now

Sure, I understand that. But to reply to this and Dave’s steak analogy, you also have to consider how rare it is to find an above average quarterback, so you have to temper your expectations on how likely can you find someone better than what you have.

Minnesota is at that point there where they have to look elsewhere. Cousins has gotten them as far as he's going to. Take Eason,let him sit, and let cousins walk when his contract is up
