I really wonder if the Cowboys are okay with letting Cooper walk and moving forward with Gallup as their new #1. After Gallup returned from an early season injury, he out-targeted Cooper 97 to 90 for the rest of the season while posting a 53/881/6 line compared to Cooper’s 58/903/4 over that stretch. I know Cooper was supposedly banged up in the back half of the season though so I'm sure that goes into it too, but I still wonder if they think Gallup can make a jump when given more opportunity.

No doubt, but I also think it's a hard pill to swallow knowing you gave up a 1st round pick for him.

Things will get a lot harder for Michael Gallup if Amari Cooper isn't playing for the Cowboys

It happens, sometimes you miss and better to cut losses

    See: Trent Richardson

I'd rather the Eagles sign Cooper than Byron Jones.

For sure. I'm not saying they should just believe Gallup can do it without Cooper, but I wouldn't be surprised if they let Cooper go then come out and say something like "Well we liked what we saw from Gallup last year and we felt like we could let Cooper go and use our resources elsewhere."

I'd rather have Jones considering Cooper seems to be banged up frequently and will just flat out disappear from games all too frequently. Not interested in paying Cooper the kind of money he's looking for (top five or so at the position) if he's not gonna show up every week

I mean he showed up every week until this past season, I honestly think he just quit playing for Garrett. I like Byron Jones, but signing someone a notch below him might be the best route.

He absolutely did not show up every week until this past season. It's been like this since his days with the Raiders.

    Here are his game logs:

    2019
    2018
    2017
    2016
    2015

I believe in this team. Prestigious

I’m calling Justin Jefferson to the Cowboys if they lose Cooper

But his final stat line has been pretty good, you also need to consider that Derek Carr isn't good. I don't know, I'd rather sign Cooper than draft another WR in the draft as well, you gotta get weapons around Wentz.

The problem with paying mediocre QBs a lot of money is that, eventually, you have to pay them more money to make the first deal make sense. Call it the Joe Flacco corollary

@socklord is right, Cooper is known for just not showing up. Carr might not be good and Prescott may have off games but the Raiders would have games where Crabtree plays fine and Cooper is nowhere to be found which correlates more with Cooper not being able (or trying) to beat his coverage than anything.

Regardless the Eagles need help badly. But I think signing Byron and drafting a WR + whatever is much better than signing Cooper and drafting a WR + other pieces to try and fix the secondary

He was whatever. Didn't really move the needle. Just a young depth piece.

Okay, the final stat line might look pretty, but the journey to get there was not. When the Eagles need him to come up big and he's got a receiving line of 3/28/0, you're not going to be happy considering he's getting paid top of the line money.

The only way trading Hopkins makes sense is if the Texans are tanking this year. Its the Raiders trading Mack, except Mack wanted out. You do not trade one of the best WRs, hell, maybe one of the best players entirely, in the game.

ESPECIALLY when what is behind him is an injury prone WR who you'd have to overpay to keep...and a bunch of middling 2nd/3rd WR options.

Want to save cap space, restructure his base salary into a signing bonus, freeing $8mil in cap space and keep the best player on your whole damn team

I'm willing to take that risk, but I also don't think Byron Jones is worth top money.

Hopkins is on a 3yr/$40mil deal right now...Cowboys would KILL to keep Cooper at that price. Hell, Bengals would be ecstatic to keep AJ Green at that level.

Next year is the year you talk trading him when he's 29 and kind of due for a massive new 5 year deal...and even then, Id only do it if he's threatening holdouts and signalling he wants out

I think Byron Jones is a more sure bet for his cost than any non-Okudah CBs in the draft relative to their draft position. Meanwhile I think the WRs in the draft can be equally or more valuable in the draft relative to their position than Amari will be relative to his cost. So I guess it just depends on how you want to use that information. I get not being sold on Byron.
