To be fair, when has trading up an arbitrary amount of spots for a questionable QB that is going to be there anyway really steered anyone wrong?

Its funny, I kind of was thinking it was bad for the Skins...they lose their LT + Chase Young and only get back theoretical players. And Dwayne Haskins is, by comparison, gonna make RGIII look like a brilliant move behind a theoretical line.

Ive basically come around to the reality that if the Skins arent bailing on Haskins and taking a QB, anything short of Young (or a trade that nets them something MASSIVE) is gonna be a failure.

Losing Trent Williams isn't really a thing since they already have lost him. Plus he'll be 32 and hasn't played in a year.

I live in this backwater of a city, trust me, it matters. You trade your franchise* left tackle and watch your 2nd year QB get murdered from the blindside all year, and there's gonna be a lot of Skins fans having flash backs to RGIII's ACL in the Seahawks game.

*There were people in week like, 15, still demanding the team bring Trent back. He was apparently a fixture in the local bar scene?

    Trusted

Looking at Pro Football Reference, he was targeted 38 times in the nine games he played last year. He gave up 25 completions (65.8% completion rate), 442 yards (17.7/completion), four touchdowns, and a passer rating of 100.9. He only had seven pass breakups, his lowest since 2016 (another injury shortened season). To his credit, he had four interceptions last season, but interceptions are not a sticky stat you can bank on repeating year to year (he had zero while playing in all 16 games last year and has never had more than three in season, dating all the way back to 2014).

2018 views Trufant a little more favorably. In 16 games, he was targeted 98 times and gave up 58 completions (59.2% completion rate), 612 yards (10.6/completion), three touchdowns, and a passer rating of 87.6. Again, he had zero interceptions on the season, but he had 12 pass breakups which tied for 7th most in the season with 11 other players (funnily enough, one of those is Ronald Darby). In case you're wondering, 19 other players has more pass breakups than Trufant did in 2018 (one of them was a linebacker, Cory Littleton.

Personally, if the Eagles can't get him on a cheaper deal than he's on now (he's set to make a little over $15m this season), then I'd rather them focus on signing Byron Jones and bringing in a cheap #2 CB that maybe can do better here with a chance of scenery. Trufant is also going to be 30 years old in early September and it makes me a little wary signing a guy who will likely cost around $10-12m still despite coming off a disappointing season at that age. I wouldn't bank on him being as good as he was before for that price when the Eagles are trying to view 2020-2022 as a "retooling" window.
