Who cares? If you take a look at the bigger picture (actual rushing yards), Detroit has been at or near the very bottom of the league since 2013. New England* employed a RBBC with Brady so the yards were more spread out anyway.

Rushing yardage rankings each season. This is just Stafford compared to Brady. It'd be hard to find many QBs with worse run game support than Stafford.

    2020 - TB 30, DET 28
    2019 - NE 17, DET 20
    2018 - NE 5, DET 20
    2017 - NE 10, DET 32
    2016 - NE 7, DET 30
    2015 - NE 30, DET 32
    2014 - NE 17, DET 28
    2013 - NE 9, DET 16

Matthew Stafford has had little to no help outside of Calvin Johnson for his entire career. Marvin Jones, Golden Tate, and Kenny Golladay are WR2s at best.

Who has been Staffords Head Coach and OCs after the last decade?

    That's the real difference

Rushing yards are ...important... when discussing rushing statistics.

PFF sucks much like your opinions on quarterbacking and Josh Doctson, who can still only run a mediocre slant route.

It's just hilarious that the vibe is "statistics are bad" until they support your side my dude, and then using the worst statistic out there to boot!

Crazy that Ryan has done so well getting no help outside of Julio Jones!

PFF does not use statistics to grade offensive line play. They pull things out of their asses and come up with fake grades.

How is using rushing yardage to show a team's rushing success (or failure in this case) bad?

It would be nice if the Colts got Stafford but I didn’t want them to have to give up 2 first rounders so I guess maybe this is a good thing.

Call up Rivers and tell him to unretire

Go get Goff from the Lions. I’m sure he’s cheap haha.

Welp, glad we didn’t pay two firsts for Stafford, but we are totally ending up with Mariota or Carr or something.

I agree with the rushing game point, and there’s no arguing against the fact that the lions failed Stafford but outside of this season when was the last time Brady had a receiver as good as Golladay, Jones, or Tate? I’d disagree that Golladay and Jones at their best can’t be WR1s, I’ve seen those guys have good games with Detroit’s backup qb.
But again I can’t understand why we’re choosing to compare Stafford to Brady.

This is such an interesting bet. I’m sure Detroit would have preferred the ‘21 first if it could have been offered, but I’m very intrigued by the prospect of them getting both ‘22 and ‘23’s first rounders. The Rams are such a house of cards - they’re propped up by like 6 studs and good coaching. Every year they manage to keep it up and the idea of Stafford in LA has a Super Bowl ceiling, but they also have a floor of picking in the top 5 with a little bit of regression and/or injuries and that’ll be a fun gamble to see how it pays off

I always thought the 2014 team that beat Seattle was an offensive team as well. I know the play to win the game was defensive but Brady and that offense were very good most of that year and even in that game considering the defense they were playing.

Also y’all put too much weight on supporting cast for individual performance. It definitely matters a little bit and it’s a huge indicator of team performance, but you have Deshaun Watson over here as an unquestioned top 5 starter on a stinky team and you don’t have to cook up a “well if the team/coaching around him was better...” argument to convey how good he is. On a better team, you might have a better *narrative* and you’re probably trading off some of the counting yardage stats for efficiency stats, but the QB play is gonna be otherwise roughly the same. Stafford is a borderline top 10 QB, which is both very good and an improvement for the Rams, but also the “here’s what he didn’t have” argument is a pretty weak one to try to prop him up further than that

As much as I love Stafford the Rams overpaid and got fleeced imo.

The Rams probably overpaid but I think they were correct to. They’ve been overpaying for a while while building their team. Now isn’t the time to pull back the reigns and get conservative

So this must mean that the Texans turned down at least that same offer from the Rams. I wonder what the Rams did offer the Texans for Watson.

This is the one time I’ll weigh in on stafford. Garroppolo has good wrs, an elite tight end, a consistently good running game and he still stinks. Andy Dalton had a bunch of good receivers and a good running game and still was remarkably average. Every good qb has good skill position players on their team, brady might be the only one who didn’t consistently have that but he had the best coach and a hall of fame tight end. Russell Wilson was really good but not a top qb until they gave him lockett and now metcalf. Before the chargers had keenan allen, rivers was throwing to malcolm floyd, dontrell inman and washed up steve johnson but people have always thought he’s really overrated. The argument that stafford had decent to good players to throw to, sure they were fine but it’s really nothing big to discount him about. Thinking that kurt, dak and kyler are much better when they all have some incredibly good skill players around them is just very hypocritical.

How heated the argument got was funny for the semantics being debated. It was basically “he’s 7th to 10th best” vs “no he’s 9th to 12th best” as if any of the quarterbacks in that range are that much clearly better or worse than each other

    he’s comfortably 9th or 10th btw
