I wonder how Goff will handle moving west.

 

Yeah, Reggie is basically the one true RB they had...and he was solid for one year and then got hurt.

The number of <150 carry, <500yd RBs they have is truly staggering. Its a list of hilarious 6 week fantasy football legends as they churn from guy to guy.

I’m curious how cap-wise this works for LA. I assume Goff and Stafford make around the same, it’s just that Stafford only has two years left vs 3? Or 4? @preppyak come speak some facts to me

Yeah, it actually hurts their cap this year a bit...though Staffords contract is dirt cheap ($20mil and $23mil cap hits, zero guaranteed money...$10mil roster bonuses are part of each year, so they can turn that to signing bonus or whatever).

Big thing is Goff had $27 mil fully guaranteed for 2021, and $15mil guaranteed for 2022, which functionally guarantees his 2022 salary (you gonna pay him a $15mil roster bonus and then cut him?), so, basically like $50+ mil in guaranteed money. But all pretty tradable. I guess there is an outside chance the Lions draft a QB this year, start Goff in 2021 and then trade him in 2022 to avoid that roster bonus.

Goff is about to become Sam Bradford, basically

Would be smart, for sure. Though I wonder if they wait til after the draft or during it. I could easily see a team give up a 2nd or something for him if they're desperate after missing out.

Also, Goff is basically now the worst QB draft pick ever...in terms of picks used to draft him and then get rid of him

 

Never said they couldn’t pass - just that they can’t pass like Kaep or Cam could at their peak

 

I'll be stunned if they dont turn that roster bonus into signing bonus and spread it out over voidable years...that alone saves them $8mil on the cap. Probably smart to just do the same with his 2022 option as well.

Unless he wants new money or something, they can have Stafford on like, $10-12mil cap numbers for 2021 and 2022.

 

so if the Lions keep Goff, it basically means that both Golladay and Marvin Jones are gone right? They are -$33 on the cap as of right now per Spotrac

also am I insane or was a lot of that arguing because people took Drew ranking Stafford with or above Brady as if it were measuring their peaks or career bodies of work, which would be ludicrous, instead of saying he'd rank 2021 Stafford above 2021 Brady, which I don't agree with but don't think is that insane when talking about someone who will be 44 going into next season

 

Depends how committed to Goff they are. I dont see any world where they can clear enough cap to keep Golladay, but, they can probably keep Marvin Jones if they want. But $10mil/yr for a 30yr old WR seems, not smart.

Feels like the Lions are hitting a complete reset button, honestly.
