I’m just not seeing the advantage for DeShaun to choose NYJ over other options considering he has all the leverage and Houston will get several competitive offers

why would he wanna build the Jets up from scratch while the Bills and Dolphins are ascending? Why would he not pick somewhere he KNOWS he can win a lot?

  2. I think Carolina checks all the boxes for what you'd think Watson would want in his new team. It's just a matter of putting together a package better or at least competitive with the other teams.

He doesn't have all the leverage. Houston still has to agree to a trade.

I mean if that's his attitude (not saying that it is, just hypothetically) then I wouldn't want him as my QB anyways. If he doesn't think he's the best/can beat the best then what's the point.

Yeah and if Watson says no to NYJ it’s not like MIA and CAR and SF aren’t also gonna have HUGE offers on the table waiting.

I think HOU is more likely to go with one of those than just not trade him or try to battle him to go to NYJ

He'll have to beat the best in the playoffs anyway...I don't understand the "but there's other good teams in the division" argument either.

Well, he is actively trying to leave a trash franchise and the Jets just immolated last year, so, you can see his hesitation in that scenario. Especially if another option is MIA.

They wouldn’t have to, they’re an option because he’s willing to play for them and the texans would get the most but not the team he wants to play for more than any other.

Miami is good on paper but they haven't won a playoff game in 21 years. It's not like they are this great franchise either.

Watson would put them over the top, but he'd do that for just about anybody.

Maybe the raiders will trade a decade of first rounders for watson

I get that, but the Jets are not positioned to be a trash franchise any longer lol. It goes back to my original point of everyone is thinking it's the Adam Gase show still for some reason. Saleh is one of the most respected coaches around the league and was the top coach hire this year

  12. Just for the argument....

Teams like the Jets and Dolphins have all this draft capitol and cap space which clearly gives them an advantage in the acquisition part of this. And sure, they'd be able to buy players in FA to build around him. But wouldn't he feel better about a team that is already constructed (SF, CAR, ATL)? There's no guarantee with free agent signings. How many times have we seen teams make big splashes in free agency and it never pan out? Yes, Dolphins and Jets have solid situations on paper, but there is still a bit on the unknown. The weapons for the other 3 teams are already there and we know they are good.

I agree with all of this too btw, we don't know what Watson is thinking. I'm just not going to sit here and let everyone continue to shit all over NYJ being the same team they were last year, they're not.

    The rivalry is back on

Yeah, kinda what everyone is saying. Watson to NYJ isn’t like an actively bad situation to be thrown in with the new coaching staff that he seems to like plus a big market. I just would be surprised if he wanted to jump straight into a rebuild that will use a good chunk of its draft capital to get him. They probably have the cap space to add a few marquee FAs around him, but my guess is that it’s less appealing than someone who is a QB away, especially if that team is like the Dolphins and is also flush with cap space to get him his FAs of choice

How do you not get it lol. You have two teams in the division wanting him, why would he choose the worse team where he would make less money

    Are the Panthers "constructed" ?

  17. I just mean as far as his weapons. I think the offense would be near the top of the league with just adding him. Sure, there are weaknesses, but outside of SF you can say the same for all the teams involved.

i agree with this except I wouldn’t lump the Jets and the Dolphins together. I’d tier their current rosters roughly like this:
    SF
    MIA
    CAR/ATL
    NYJ

I think people are overthinking this. Only one of these options made the playoffs last year. Atlanta had a franchise QB and still went 4-12. They're trash. The Panthers and 49ers both finished in negative point differentials and the 49ers injury issues are such that you cant trust their roster.

The Dolphins are returning every player from a 10-6 playoff level team AND would be adding a top 3 QB. That's the winning situation. I think 49ers/CAR are next, where he locks in each offense as potential top 5, but, there are still very real issues on both teams. NYJ, great, they have a QB, but it matters a lot what they do with about 10 of their starting positions. Truthfully, ATL is the worst situation, the picks they'd have to give up are what they desperately need to get anything resembling a defense...they already have a top 5 passing attack and Julio isnt getting younger/healthier.

  20. I don't disagree with this. I was just throwing out a perspective. Miami would be a great landing spot for him. I will say, I don't think their defense can replicate what it did last year. That isn't a knock on them, they'll still be good, it's just really hard to be that good on defense year to year. But....adding Watson affords a defense to fall back a little bit because then the offense would actually be noteworthy lol

but I'm not sure how you can say CAR or ATL is "already constructed" but Miami is not considering Miami was much better than both last year

  25. I should have clarified....I was just talking about the weapons he'd have. Not as a whole team.
