When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

the best part of this is you can’t even necessarily say Calvin was doing all the work even though he’s firmly the #3 best receiver of all time. A lot of those are very precise throws into coverage.

Alriiiiight time to rank the Wide Receivers

let’s say from Jerry Rice onwards cause be honest none of y’all watched much WR play from before the 90s

here’s my top 25, split into tiers:

    1) Jerry Rice

    2) Randy Moss

    3) Calvin Johnson
    4) Terrell Owens
    5) Larry Fitzgerald

    6) Marvin Harrison
    7) DeAndre Hopkins
    8) Antonio Brown (hate him now obv but he was undeniably crazy good on the Steelers)
    9) Julio Jones
    10) Steve Smith
    11) Andre Johnson
    12) Cris Carter

    13) Isaac Bruce
    14) Michael Thomas
    15) Tim Brown
    16) Brandon Marshall
    17) Michael Irvin

    18) Hines Ward
    19) Torry Holt
    20) Jimmy Smith
    21) Chad Ochocinco
    22) Reggie Wayne
    23) Anquan Boldin
    24) Andre Reed
    25) Keyshawn Johnson

side note: the late 90s Vikings (Moss/Carter ) and mid 2000s Colts (Harrison / Wayne) each had two players on this list simultaneously, and Kurt Warner had two players on this list TWICE in his career with STL (Bruce / Holt) and ARI (Fitz / Boldin) Lol.

I always suspected this would happen, and to be honest, the NFL has to do it because the amount of shit teams will pull by taking base salary from their big time guys and converting them to 2022 guaranteed bonuses or something is the kind of cap fuckery they cant encourage. Teams would be adding so many void years to deals and doing massive 2022 roster bonuses for free agents too.

A cap that goes $198mil -> $175mil ->$225mil, with that down year being when half the franchise QBs change teams, is the kind of shit that gets Goodell fires by the owners

I like most of the list, but you got this guy 2 sections too high. He slots in perfectly with a Wayne/Ocho/Ward category where you're either listing a guy who was never really a top 3 WR in the league, but did it at a high level for 10+ years, or a guy who was top 3, but for a season here and there and has a shorter window. That's AB to a T. He's got 6 top 5ish seasons and like 2-3 seasons as probably the #1 guy.

Michael Thomas has almost as many top seasons as AB and he's only played 5 seasons

probably right outside my 25. If he keeps this up you can slot ‘em in. I’m just trying to avoid recency bias but realistically he’s at LEAST above Keyshawn, Reed and Boldin when it’s all said and done

for almost this whole section of his career I considered Antonio Brown the best WR in the league, Hopkins surpassed him between 2017 and 2018 and Brown was still my #2.

Maybe I have Michael Thomas too low and that’s the issue, because he’s still quite young and could easily finish his career above Brown... but I def think Brown was harder to stop than Ward / Wayne / Ochocinco. Those guys were always good but almost never top 5 in the league.

If anything I could rank Ward higher than his current spot because of his ELITE run-blocking abilities, but that’s why I put him at the top of his tier. As a receiver, while he was VERY good, imo not quite one of the elites of his generation.

But maybe I should be more consistent about snubbing toxic players because I didn’t even think about putting Tyreek Hill on this list for that reason haha. He’s still very new so I get a pass though

Ebron has the most fragile ego of any player in the NFL. He still to this day tweets at Lions fans. Dude sucks so much

I'm sure I'm more biased because he sucked for us and had stone hands, coupled with the fact he was way overdrafted but I can't stand the dude.

tbh he’s more of a meme to me than anything else

he put together some semblance of a good game while in IND to go with the bad and I don’t have the association of him being a draft bust (just a decent signing on a 2-year deal) but you have to laugh at some of those wide open drops with his stone hands so you dont cry

I’m gonna join you on this when I hit my mid-day lull at work

my gut looking at this is that it’s too heavily biased against the 10s (especially past the top 10) but I will confirm shortly if I think that’s true

whats most mind blowing to me is that he went NINE YEARS between Super Bowl wins and in those nine years only went to two Super Bowls (lol “only”).

like, 10 Super Bowls in 21 seasons is fucking outrageous (and maybe that should be 20 since he lost an entire year when he got hurt in week 1) but when 2 came in a 9 year stretch that’s basically like saying almost every other year of his career outside of that DECADE was Tom Brady in a Super Bowl when an already 2:1 ratio was ridiculous enough
