I don’t think Houston will trade him, but no one has more ammo than the Jets.

 

IMO this is exactly why Detroit would try to avoid trading him there. If an AFC team is offering anything in the ballpark of what WFT would offer, feels like they’d have a strong preference for not trading him there. NE, IND, and DEN would be my top 3 guesses on Stafford

While I 100% agree, its a new GM and coach, I think they can shrug that off easily enough as "our old guy fucked up". No reason to do sunk cost fallacy and compound it.

If HOU has a choice, they sent Watson to NYJ because the odds they're gonna waste him are high than MIA. Miami is a playoff team that, with Watson, probably is a playoff team every year til he retires. NY, even with Watson, has to play MIA/BUF/NE every year and doesnt have depth yet to lock him into the playoffs.

Oh, I agree...but, it comes down to what a team will offer. Im not sure the Jets are gonna offer as much as MIA for precisely that reason. NY needs one of their first to get an OL to keep Watson alive. Sure, they'd rather send Stafford to DEN, but the WFT may offer more because they are uniquely cap suited to take him on AND he fills their biggest gap. DEN isnt constructed to win their division like WFT is (in large part because the NFCE is trash)
