@preppyak One time Carrabba’s in Jacksonville FL was offering promos and for some reason accepting home-printed versions of them???

so obviously people were scanning and making copies. Getting free meals. And guess what the tip is on a cheated $0.00 check.

so after a few months of this, they tried to say “one coupon per table” to make sure it was only one meal free Max.

people literally started coming in and demanding to all sit at their own table. So they can get their free meal. And then obviously migrating to each other’s tables to socialize.

the managers at that restaurant ACTUALLY MADE SERVERS DO THIS. @CarpetElf worked there also (this was the first time we moved together) and can vouch for me.

this phrase is said in every restaurant and it literally means “I expect you to spend every waking second of your shift doing work even though I pay you less than minimum wage and you have no tipping customers right now”

it would be unacceptable behavior and workers rights abuse in any other line of business. Imagine getting an important phone call from like your son crying, and getting written up for answering the phone for a couple minutes because a customer didn’t get their water fast enough

Oh I know. I heard it all the time at mcds. still my fav job ever, but also super different from a normal restaurant job in that we made actual minimum wage+ and didn’t rely on tips

The place I worked in Atlanta:

-fired their overnight cleaning staff and expected servers to not only pick up their slack, but ramp it up for COVID-cleaning standards.. during their regular working hours... for “tipped” $3 wages. Didnt even let servers clock in to full minimum wage to clean.

-fired half their staff ahead of the pandemic for really trivial reasons to avoid needing to pay unemployment. They transparently started documenting and writing up every dispute and every customer complaint, in a naturally high stress environment where things go wrong every day... just so they had records stocked and could be legally protected to lay off their staff for free. Usually it’s the manager’s job to de-escalate... but they flipped a switch in late January when the pandemic got real, and looked for reasons to fire people in order to save the company’s bottom line this year.

-had a server feel sick and develop a fever, instead of taking that seriously because of a pandemic, they demanded he continue to work unless he provides a doctor’s note. Their reason for this was “we offer health insurance...” bruh their deductible is like $20,000. It means nothing. Helps with nothing. He was visibly ailing on the floor.

-continued to accept large parties during this time until it was ruled completely illegal (which took a long time in GA)

-fired other servers for being afraid to come in to work while one of them obviously had COVID. Even after he finally tested positive and got sent home. They closed for a night to clean and expected everybody to come back to work, no quarantine.

-all of this while customer volume sharply decreased and everyone’s income was cut in less than half of what it normally was. The restaurant never offered hazard pay, a raise, didn’t even offer to pay full minimum wage or allow overtime for the hours servers were spending doing untipped labor.

Servers have no recourse at all. They are Amazon factory workers. The above situation is what pushed me to go to college and never work in a restaurant again.

I could go on but you guys get the point, be nice to restaurant workers, don’t ask for dumb things that are going to make it hard to service everyone else in the restaurant. The managers will literally say yes to everything they’re all simps groveling for money and consistent, loyal customers in a dying industry. It really is on you, the customer, to not be an asshole.

    The rivalry is back on

the problem is, idk if anyone wants to be that team

if the Colts strike out on the sure fire starters, I’d want them to draft someone. If they draft someone high enough to be the presumptive starter, I’d prefer a high floor veteran backup until they feel comfortable starting that rookie. Overpaying someone like Andy Dalton on a one year deal or re-signing Brissett (who already knows the offense) sounds more appealing

If the Colts don’t draft a QB, I’d prefer a high ceiling re-tread. I can talk myself into Sam Darnold or Mitch Trubisky maybe coming around with Frank Reich as the coach and this supporting cast, and if all goes well, you have the QB of the near-term future. And if not, it’s probably a train wreck and you’re in position to fix that position next year in what should be a one year blip.

Swap out names and that’s most of the other teams in the league

meh. I personally think Minshew still has some untapped potential and is better than Darnold or Trubisky quite easily. He’s also a lot cheaper and won’t be owed a new contract for 2 more years. Wanting Dalton is fair cause he has at least won almost half his games but Brissett to me is a perfect example of why Minshew is a realistic option - teams are willing to take chances on underdeveloped young QBs because of how affordable they are.

Honestly, Id bet you can have one of those other 3 (Darnold would obviously be at trade) for a fairly reasonable deal. Dalton cost $3mil this season, no way he costs as much as Brissett did this year. Same for Trubisky, who isnt going out and signing a big deal

It was wild to me when I worked at Sonic that it was $4/hr us tips. Like I never knew people tipped them that much??? And they didn't where I worked at either.
