MLB couldn't be worse at marketing their stars. I'm an avid baseball fan and couldn't pick Mike Trout out of a lineup. It's wild from the perspective of both a professional marketer and a baseball fan.

I don't pity him for being on a shitty team, he chose to give himself the responsibility of elevating that team to a contender when he re-signed there and he never does. Give MVP to an actual contender

Baseball isnt like basketball or football though. It's the most team oriented team sports

 

I only know Rendon because he was a Nat for a time...and I used to listen to more sports talk radio

 

He should've thought of that come contract time and gone to a team he can actually elevate so he could deserve more MVPs*

*That doesn't mean "sell your soul to the Yankees/Red Sox/Dodgers". He could easily sign with a middling team and make them contenders if he wanted to

 

Looking at the Angels history their records are actually better than I remember which does make me soften on that a little bit

It's kinda wild that baseball can't figure out how to market their players, who's faces you can see much more clearly than say, football, a game where the players faces are hidden behind a fucking helmet/facemask

MVP is about being the best player in the league for that season, Trout has been that. But if that's the case, let's give mediocre players the MVP on a contending team. It's just a silly and crazy take.

 

And baseball is totally the most team oriented sport.

 

The most popular team is a team that has a strict dress code+grooming code so it doesn't surprise me much
