Thing is, Texans have basically no leverage. It's unlikely but it's not out of the realm of possibility he'd get traded for 1 first if Deshaun only wants to go to a select group of teams and the best offer from that group is a high first. (This assumes the Texans don't want to drag this out.)

The team's leverage is he just signed a new contract and they could call his bluff

with how shitty Cal's been handling things it is not out of the realm of possibilities.. he could strap Caserio on making a move. Nothing would surprise me.

I get that theory...but, if Watson is fine with Saleh and Flores, that alone creates a bidding war between two teams with a LOT to offer and no reason not to offer it all.

Dolphins are a Watson and some FA signings away from being a SB contender. Jets, without an elite QB, are gonna have no chance in hell in their division for YEARS to come. That they are in the same division makes the bidding war even hotter (if you lose, you play Watson 2x a season for the next 10 years)

And thats before you even include say, San Fran or a similar team with an established coach and structure

Yeah this was kind of my thought. I would feel horrible for texans fans, but selfishly seeing how a trade would materialize for him would be kind of fascinating.

I mean, there is nothing Houston can do to him until training camp...and then they can fine him $50k/day...at which point you'll have had like 8 straight months of stories about whether you have a QB, and you'll have missed out on insane draft capital, etc.

Its only if he skips Week 1 that they can go after his guaranteed money and try to take back his signing bonus; you want to have having this same discussion on September 17th?

So I've never been to Houston. Kinda the only major city I've never stepped foot in.

Does it smell? I'm getting the sense it sorta smells

It's too big to say "it" is anything.

    Other than too fucking big.

By the way, I think the historical comparison for this is Eli and San Diego. Eli had ALL the leverage in that scenario, NY didnt really have to offer SD that much for Eli, and yet they still ended up giving up a 3rd, future 1st and 5th. You just simply dont get fleeced for franchise QBs because another team will swoop in at that low price.

houston seems like a really interesting place tbh. I'd love to go. Actually never been to Texas at all, but houston specifically seems interesting.

Like, do this, 49ers come in with Jimmy G (and they eat all his base salary), #12, their 2nd, and a future 1st and now Miami either loses out or their offer is forced up.

I mean yeah, realistically I think it's at least two first-round picks. As a 49ers fan, I don't even know how many first round picks the 49ers would have to send for me to say "oh they overspent." If they sent the next 5 first round picks I don't think I would oppose it.

But ball is in Deshaun's court with the NTC. If for some reason he wants to go to the Bears and only the Bears? Texans can't even play teams off of each other.

I think the good news for Houston is they can get a solid solid return for Watson. Hes a clear cut top 10 qb. Hes a franchise qb. No questions.

Bad news is you're giving up a franchise/no doubt qb.

As would I, but, we're talking a very stupid franchise that might trade Watson...so, for all I know Jimmy G has a tape of Easterby's sermons and its a match.

Watsons dont become available, ever. I'd 100% mortgage 3 1st round picks for him if Im Carolina, Indy, WFT, Chicago, etc...and Im sure Watson wont want to go to one or two of those, but the price is gonna end up being the equivalent of 3 1sts and a 2nd. Whether thats Tua, 2 1sts and a 2nd. Darnold, 1sts and a 2nd. Some team trading 2021-2023 1sts. Whatever.
