literally every coach ever dodges the question of who they’re going to draft and says HR style stuff about “all the players are good and we’ll evaluate all of them”. It’s a necessary precedent to set with the media to control narratives and prevent leaks / rumors... even if everyone knows who you want.

 

Its actually super easy for Meyers to smokescreen the pick is Fields because every before the season, he said the only reason he had TLaw over Fields was experience.

Why not even just make other team's spend more time scouting Lawrence? That's resources, that's a competitive advantage.

The guy replying makes a good point, thats just a list of names without useful context. Like sure, cross off every >4.6 CB and it helps a little...but, its not actually telling you anything statistically without weighting it against expected draft pick.

If every CB who runs a 4.6 40 is expected to be a 7th rounder and they all bust out, then that's a list of expectations met. If 15 of those guys were predicted in the first 2 rounds, now that's a scary thing to watch. And imagine missing out on Josh Norman in the 5th because he ran .01s slower than your random ass metric

 

i am a lot more concerned about the first part of that tweet than the second. Coach-centric roster management scares me

Its gonna be exactly the train-wreck we all expect for exactly that reason.

Seems pretty clear to me that with the right talent and with accountability, Meyer could be a massive success. But he sure as hell isnt getting one of those things, and it remains to be seen if he has the ability to acquire talent at an NFL level.

 

I'd rather have the coach be able to veto the gm on a player he wants to coach than vice versa tbh. Coach centric really isnt a bad idea
