I'm in a rare situation where my boss does work 10 times harder and deserves 10 times as much money as I make.

lol i looked up my Boss' linkedin once because i was curious how he described his job. He listed out my entire job and just said "I'm in charge of that" and I'm like MOTHERFUCKER YOU HAVEN'T EVEN LOOKED AT THE CALENDAR IN 2021

I’m in that same situation actually. The people above me in the hierarchy work their asses off and make quite a bit more. But I make really good money so it doesn’t make me bitter looking at them making nearly double.

Oh man, do I hate everything about this. Ive never worked in a job (aside from being self-employed) where my productivity could be tied to capital gains within a company. Basically every governmental job (from local to state to federal) breaks your system, and thats like 10-20% of the direct work force. Im not even touching contractors whose jobs are tied to federal or state budgets.

UBI is gonna end up being a far better way of breaking the current system than any wage based push. I'm seeing it right now, as my income is supplemented heavily by PUA (self-employed version of unemployment). Im still scraping together a decent number of clients, but, that ~$600/week also gives me flexibility to take on unpaid work for charities/non-profits that has way more value to society than my paid gigs.

Becoming more of a slave to profit aint the solution.

Man, mine was the opposite. My boss worked her ass off writing grants, managing 10+ people, AND being a professor of a class a semester and she made like, 30% more than our web developer. I was amazed she did that for 10+ years and didnt just take basically the same salary to be a tenured professor and teach 2 classes a semster

Yeah its definitely rare but a direct result of working at a high income small company. We all get paid well so nobody is complaining, he legitimately WORKS 7 days a week, 12 hours a day.

idk man I'm on here and he's working.

I have a phone interview in a half hour and I am not feeling it at all / kind of want to cancel it. I don’t even remember what the position title is lol

That's about the split, yeah. We are well staffed, and I know a huge % of our profit goes to our employees, so I truly am in a situation where I can't complain. I make enough to live, save, and donate.

Our whole companies payroll is available for everyone to see, so we know who gets what, including the owner/president. They did that on purpose to make it clear that company performance and personal performance gets paid out to us.

    Do we... work together?

No but really, same thing for us. When someone new gets hired, we all get slight bumps in pay because we all took a bit of seniority.

My boss is 4 years younger than me, owns a house already, paid for his wedding, drives a $45,000 car and has been out all week without anyone missing a beat because he doesn't do anything.

It drives me nuts. I really resent the fuck out of him and my company. He's a nice enough guy and we get along personally, but it's really really frustrating working here/if anyone is hiring a marketer hit me up lol

Definitely a good point about how UBI encourages people to work for the community not just for company profits. I hadn’t considered that.

yeah and so has poor math education.

Most middle class, white collar workers really have no idea how badly they’re being swindled.

    there is one way out

Yeah, tying wages to productivity doesn’t make sense for many industries that don’t have clear productivity metrics. And then then there are so many outside factors that can effect an individual’s output, that it could probably also lead to more wage gaps for BIPOC and women in the same positions. There needs to be strong and equitable base salaries first.
