Wouldn't he stay in SF and take on more responsibility if LaFleur comes to NY?

Supposedly he would be Staley’s offensive coordinator if he becomes a head coach

Also, situationally coming out of the Gase debacle, give me the motivational guy instead of the toxic "its all about me" dude. I will really be curious how big Douglas is on Darnold and how much that factored into this moved; if the Jets are willing to trade out of #2 and a team really wants their pick (Lions, Panthers, 49ers, etc), there's a real chance they could rebuild an entire young roster around him.

They already have #2, #23, #34, #66, and #77 just in the 1st 3 rounds alone; if a team wants Fields or Wilson or whoever bad enough to move up to #2, they can still get one of the top 3 WRs, Pitts, one of the CBs, or even like Slater and probably be better off with Darnold, Becton, 2-3 OL picks, 2 WR picks, and the rest of the draft being defense. And they'll still have Seattles 2022 pick as well

Jets job still sucks because MIA has just as much draft capital and went 10-6 this year, and the Bills look like they're gonna fuck people up for years. And Belichick coaches another team.

But that seems like the right move to hope that Tua doesnt pan out or Belichick retires or something and you can be ready in 2-3 years.

Also, if I'm the Jets and I think Urban Meyer has real interest in Fields...I'd offer him Seattle's 2022 pick or like, #34 to get Lawrence. Cant imagine Meyers is that dumb, but, I'd absolutely make that call and hope.

Feels like we're about to watch the Patriots suck for a few years....they've got a ton of money tied up in a bunch of 30ish year old guys in a win-now mode, but neither the QB or WRs to genuinely win that division.

And Bill's just good enough to drag them you 7-9/8-8 most years, so they wont get the top 5 pick they need to get an elite QB

Yeah, the Pats* can have Mac Jones.

My assumption is darnold is back and this entire draft is about getting him what he needs

Its pretty easy to see how an off-season that includes Chris Godwin or Allen Robinson, a trade from #2 to like #8 and getting say, Ja'marr Chase or Smith cause the QBs all go high and Miami trades down....Etienne or Najee Harris at 23 or 34...and then using whichever of those picks doesnt go that way on interior O-line and you give him a HELL of a lot more to work with. Crowder becomes a pretty amazing #3 instead of a weak #1.

It'll actually be interesting to see MIA and NYJ with a lot of the same needs offensively and what they do with their cap space and picks.

IOL is way more important in the Shanahan system than a running back.

I think the Jets could take a back in the draft, but they won't until the middle rounds. Ty Johnson and LaMical Perine could do very well in that scheme.

RB just isn't a huge need in that offense. Never has been, never will be.

Miami is not taking a QB at 3. It's a fun media narrative but it's not happening

If they hire Canada, I'd imagine it increases the chances of Juju to Miami and then take Devonta at 3

Nah, definitely not...but, say Carolina trades up to #2 to get their guy...I can see a team wanting #3 to lock in their QB pick as well...kind of like 2018 where there was a lot of movement to get a QB. Its easy to see Miami outside the top 10 (say #12 or #15) and the Jets getting their pick of the elite WRs after PHI.

Yeah, thats fair; Jets are kind of in a weird spot too where they have Becton and a decent RT, so spending picks on interior line probably bolster a late round RB more than taking Etienne (since Bell did fuck all before getting cut)

So if the Jets do keep Darnold are they taking Sewell? Because then I am in for Miami trading back I think

Becton and Fant are fine at tackle, especially in a zone scheme. Connor McGovern played well at center. Our guards were absolute garbage. This is a great year for interior lineman and the best of the group should be available at 23 or even 34.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Le'Veon Bell is washed. He was basically useless for Kansas City too.

He'd be the best player on the board at #2, but I think George Fant is fine at RT. He had a good season and he's affordable.

If the Jets can't trade back, I think Sewell is the pick because Douglas won't deviate from his board. But the goal is most likely going to be to sell that pick to the highest bidder.

yeah I think Scott Linehan would almost definitely be an offensive line focused coordinator

Scott Linehan has been coaching for 33 years and has never once specifically coached the OL.

He is a passing game focused coach. He's always worked with WRs and QBs.

Id also imagine its worth giving the pick to the Bengals for not too crazy a price. #5 is certainly still where you get one of the top 2 WRs or the top CB, and if you can get like a 3rd and future 3rd, or something in that ilk, its free picks for what you want to do anyway.

Though, there's worse worlds to be in than Sewell and Fant on the outside and asking Becton to slim down some and absolutely murder people as a run blocking guard.
