It’s not as though I don’t have a reason to mistrust the Jags making smart moves. They literally always fuck up their sorry ass “rebuilds”. This is the team that drafted Blaine Gabbert over JJ Watt and then drafted a punter over Russell Wilson after Gabbert blew ass his rookie year.

So now I see us getting tunnel vision about a college coach, on a rare offseason where I actually LIKE several of the options and where we actually DO get to draft a good quarterback. Just feels like we’re fucking up again and making a galaxy brain decision.

it’s another “oh let’s sign Nick Foles to $27M a year with most guaranteed, he’s a winner” to me

Like why has Urban Meyer as a HC never been talked about before until the Jags are in the market for one? If he’s so desirable why weren’t teams calling him up every offseason? Why is there hype now?

I won't speak to any of his college stops or SF, but Chip Kelly failed in Philly because of his personality and his moves as GM. He did bring a lot of good stuff to the table. There are schemes that Kelly designed that ended up in the Eagles playbook the Super Bowl year. I also wish the Eagles would bring back his sports science program. Ever since it stopped there have been a ton of injuries pretty much every year

Seems like he was still iffy on whether he wants to or not. I don’t think that changed. The hype could have pressured him years ago.

Teams have been trying to get Urban Meyer to the NFL since he left Utah for Florida

Can I ask you guys this? Poll of yes/no votes

do you personally, subjectively, consider it likely Urban Meyer takes TLaw and the Jags to a couple winning seasons at least?

    including you @CarpetElf

Urban Meyer wouldn't take the job if he didn't think he could win it all. It could be an epic disaster because I can definitely see him and Khan butting heads, but winning fixes everything.

100 percent. Literally my only concern with Meyer is his health and if he somehow comes into employing a team of people as shitty as his last UF team

Meyer can build something great that falls down in a hurry.

Yeah, in a 5-year timeframe I imagine they'll have at least 2 winning seasons.

I hate Urban but with Lawrence the Jags could put together a solid few seasons together. I hope he’s gone by the time Lawrence is 30 though.

If we have a good draft, I'd probably say 6-10 next year then a winning record for 3/4 of the next years, with one of those years being 7-9 or 8-8

    For sure.

I get the worries, I get not trusting your team given the history

hell, I’m over here trying to fucking rationalize hiring Marvin Lewis. It sucks haha

Lions fans deserve happiness. That we all agree on.

Texans on the other hand, bunch of cocky assholes.

Well, you guys all assuring me that Meyer is that rare college coach who could confidently make the jump is definitely making me relax a bit. Thanks for your input.

Now I just hope we don’t draft a bunch of domestic abusers and other shitbags, and he doesn’t quit if we aren’t in the playoffs by season 2.

    The rivalry is back on

    Yes

though my opinion is more a vote of confidence for Lawrence vs driven one way or the other by Meyer’s hire
