Players try to win. Coaches try to win. GMs tank. It’s why the Jets couldn’t make it to the bottom. Players try lol. The Jaguars TEAM tried to win 16 games and lost 15 of them.

Sure, there are pieces to like there and some promising prospects, but they as a whole are in fact a bad roster that needs a lot of work lol

I also don’t think it’s a “dead end” like the Lions job is, but it’s most promising aspect is a kid who has never taken an NFL snap. Not awesome lol

Minshew isn’t a franchise QB but they also sat him for a reason. They weren’t seriously trying to figure out if Luton / old ass Glennon is better lmao

Normally a bad roster is a positive because it means a blank slate to bring in your guys. I’d be surprised if more than a single digit number of players from the 2020 Jags were considered part of the future and were members of the 2023 team just because that’s how it works with new GMs and coaches

I think it’s a top opening but mostly because of Lawrence and the rest of the openings stink lol

 

The alluring things about the Jags opening are:
1) Trevor Lawrence
2) cap space and pick capital
3) a long leash
4) maybe a couple of the recent draft picks

 

This is true. Also, the ones that are considered part of the future are actual good players, and also very young

 

Like no offense Randall, I’m not trying to pile on you, but at the beginning of the year we all said they had a bad roster and would compete for #1 and you said nah no way they got more talent than that. Now that they have successfully stunk the most, you’re still saying nah no way they have more talent than that. There’s more to having a good roster than a WR you like and having the 2nd best Josh Allen in football.

 

Cap space, draft picks. and strong young core

 

Currently every Reid disciple on the offense side of the ball has a winning record as a head coach with the exception of Pat Shurmur.

im saying that we started Glennon and Luton because we knew that Minshew had a better chance of winning. that decision could’ve came from the top. Marrone coached this whole season knowing his job was probably gone if he didn’t win early.

I’m not saying that tanking is an explicit goal of everyone on the staff... but I am saying coaches on a dysfunctional team aren’t stupid, and can see what the GM is trying to do, by shipping off all the team’s talent at once after two bad seasons. The GM is ultimately the boss. I’m sure Marrone tried his hardest to win with Luton and Glennon but if he had his way he would’ve probably just rolled with Minshew.

it’s the GM that wants to see, in the middle of a season, if we have a decent backup QB or not, not the coach.

 

Reid's coaching tree also includes John Harbaugh, Sean McDermott and Ron Rivera. It might be a bit overstated but how many other coaches oversaw multiple Super Bowl winning head coaches?

 

they are just using the coaching tree thing as an excuse to cover up their racism

 

Nagy is not good. Pederson's record without Reich, and as a scout, is not good. Stefanski is not part of that tree.
Theres a legit reason to be skeptical about hiring a guy as a HC who's only net positive in his career is essentially being a messenger

This is grossly misrepresenting my argument. I remember this. I specifically said that Minshew is good enough to “win a couple games we shouldn’t win”. Not that our team as a whole is too good. So you really have a skewed idea of what I think of the Jags roster.

And guess what they did? Deliberately bench Minshew half the season after a few close games early in the season didn’t go our way. We made a conscious choice to start tanking once we were 1-4 and 1-5.
