With all of the coaching interviews going around, I went back to remind myself who Pittsburgh interviewed when they hired Tomlin:

Russ Grimm
Chan Gailey
Ron Rivera

Apparently aaron wilson on a local radio show said he thinks the jets and campbell are a thing (LOL as soon as tony pauline heard about it he said it’s not true so maybe it is then)

 

Would’ve been happy with Rivera, but we obviously made the right choice.

 

Marvin Lewis feels like a very safe choice for the Lions (or any team). If he could do in Detroit what he did in Cincy I think most fans would put him down as the best coach in team history. Now, the likelihood of that happen is slim, and ironically enough it’s basically what Caldwell was doing when ownership felt it “wasn’t enough” so typical “lol lions” to now feel like that is good enough to at least get back to after the Patricia debacle, but consistent 9-10 win seasons and getting to the playoffs would be a huge win for Detroit at this point.

 

Lewis would be an upgrade from Patricia, but a lateral move from Caldwell. So it’s net neutral.

Marvin Lewis isn't a bad coach but I get why it would be an underwhelming hire. @Joe4th they did say Fitz was in play though and that'd be amazing.

 

Oh hey, Dan Mullen is linked to the Jets so can we make jokes about Kyle Trask going #2 overall now

 

At least he actually coached Trask unlike the Meyer - Fields joke

 

Lewis is just... whatever. Like, yeah he’s better than Patricia but it’s a low bar. It’s Caldwell part 2, which sure, it’ll be nice to make the playoffs; but status quo would be so disappointing. I don’t know. I hope it doesn’t happen but it wouldn’t surprise me.

My memory is Grimm and Whisenhunt were internal hires and most people really thought one of them was gonna get the job...and then Grimm never even became HC anywhere
