This is true of In and Out, basically. If I compare it to all burger places, their fries are weak and the burgers are solid but pretty beatable. Compare it to fast food places charging $2-3 for a burger, and they are pretty damn hard to beat

 

Had in n out for the first time out in Cali. Thought it was great but probably because I’m a simple guy.

Had Jack in the box for the first time and thought it wasn’t that great, guess I needed to be high or something

 

Jack in the box is meh, but its probably cause they make one of everything. Where else are you getting tacos, egg rolls, burgers, and pita on the same menu

I'm not sure I'm not super picky about fry type as long as it's made well

 

I hate crinkle cut fries but shake shacks are definitely the exception. They’re perfectly crisp and if you add the cheese sauce they’re essentially a drug

 

Waffle fries are the worst though. Gimme them shoestrings

I was super underwhelmed with my one trip to In n Out.

Is Five Guys fast food? I really like Five Guys.

 

Waffle fries can be the best, but their window of goodness is ~5 minutes from out of the fryer to in your mouth. Not fried enough or sitting under a heat lamp for 15 minutes, they are a nightmare

See, this is what Im saying. Everyone has their own favorite (Shake Shack, Five Guys, Smashburger, etc)...but they arent doing what In n Out is doing. Under the best case scenario, I can walk out of those places with a burger, fries and a drink for $10-12. If you're doing anything beyond single burger, its like $15. I can do that at In n Out for like $5...I can go apeshit crazy at In n Out and still only spend $9

 

If I get a patty melt though, it’s Whataburger all day

 

Whataburger patty melts are SO good

I don't go there much ever anymore, but if I do, that's what I'm getting

 

Five Guys is my jam. Wish my wife wasnt vegetarian as Id eat there more.
