I didn’t scroll through to read if someone else said this, but the cool thing about coach contracts is that the downside of them is that with a bad (read: high) contract, the only thing that happens is that a billionaire owner pays a millionaire coach more than any other team would for longer.

 

since we talk about non-football stuff in here - anyone have experiences staying in AirBnB's? i've never done it but looks like that will be my only option on some upcoming trips this summer. i assume they're safe and all that and the app/website has a significant vetting process so the Ed Gein wannabes of the world don't get easy picking of dumb travelers, but anything i should know or do beforehand? any tips or tricks? did you feel safe at the one(s) you used?

 

I’ve had nothing but good experiences at air bnbs. Just read the customer reviews and if they’re all good you should be fine.

Ditto. My paranoia extends to me poking around a little for cameras but usually it’s all good and fine. Just go for highly reviewed options.

 

I've stayed in a bunch over the years

went to Ireland last year for like 10 days and stayed in a different AirBNB in every city we went to. No real issues other than the Dublin owner was kind of a dick.

My only real concern is that it’s very close to the middle of nowhere in the woods, so creepy area on top of staying in an unknown house by myself and having seen too many horror movies makes me wonder if I’ll get any sleep while there lol

the reviews and place look great but I just gotta get over my own bugaboos about it

 

Ive had amazing experiences, did my honeymoon entirely through them, etc. Only time I got burned is because the place I was renting had been used by some 18yr old a few days before for a massive party (100+ people...back in September) and trashed the place. Guy set us up with another one of his properties instead.

Some things Ive found useful:

1. Read the full first page of reviews; you'll find any quirks get mentioned repeatedly. Definitely have avoided a few places because of people complaining of sketchy/creepy owners.
2. The more you can stay multiple days, the easier it is to spread out the cleaning fees. Worth a little driving to have a central base for 4 days than pay a $50 cleaning fee at each new place each night.
3. Ignore any place with <5 reviews, unless you are willing to take a risk. In a place with no options, go for it...but any real city, places should all have easily 50+ reviews. The ones that pop up as "rare finds" or whatever they call it are actually usually genuinely great (ended up staying at the place Megan Rapinoe had stayed at in Brussells right before the Womens WC in 2019).

I dont do shared rooms or any of that, always go with my own place, so I pay a little more. But Ive ended up in some really cool places for fairly cheap versus hotels & resorts.
